
UT MARTIN EQUESTRIAN WRAPS UP PARTICIPATION AGAINST STIFF COMPETITION IN WILLIS INVITATIONAL

WACO, Texas – The University of Tennessee at Martin equestrian team faced lengthy weather delays this morning at the Willis Invitational before falling by a 13-3 margin to No. 7 Baylor and by a slim 9-7 margin against Delaware State.

The Skyhawks completed their Round 2 matchup against Baylor after the first half of the competition took place on Friday afternoon. UT Martin was outscored by a 5-3 margin in the Western discipline while the host Bears claimed an 8-0 win in the Hunter Seat competition.

In reining, Hannah McDonald earned a victory with a 71-point performance against Abbi Demel. Noel Meadows also rose to the occasion with a win after a score of 68 against Georgia Smith. Tess Baumann (69.5) and Maddie Mykolaitis (68) each performed well but were outscored by three or less points. Overall, UT Martin outscored Baylor by a 276.5-213 margin in the event.

Bobbie Piddock accounted for the Skyhawks' lone victory in horsemanship, as she was responsible for 73 points during her win over Kaylee Mellott. Devon Woods' 74.5 points barely missed out on a victory, as she was defeated by 0.5 points in her head-to-head matchup.

In equitation on the flat, Randi LaChance's 74 was just two points shy of a victory. Abbie Hopkins was responsible for UT Martin's best score with 78 points.

Freshman Kelby Kane stood out in equitation over fences, as her 83 points ranked as the best on the team. She was narrowly edged out by two points in her head-to-head competition.

In the Round 3 competition against Delaware State, the Skyhawks took five of the eight points in the Western discipline. UT Martin split the equitation on the flat event but was outscored overall by a 6-2 margin in Hunter Seat.

Mykolaitis (66 against Angelina Watts) and Meadows (65.5 over Shelbe Jarrett) also earned points while Baumann's 65 points were just one shy of a clean UT Martin sweep in the event.

In horsemanship, Lucy Eier came away with a Skyhawk victory after her 71 points bested Blayne Bell. Piddock took her second win in the tournament thanks to a 66-point effort.

UT Martin was led by LaChance in equitation on the flat, as she claimed MOP status with an 82-point victory over Sydney Wicklund. Hopkins also cashed in a Skyhawk victory with a score of 74 points over Gabrielle Fournier.

However, UT Martin was shut out in equitation over fences. Hopkins' 69 was just one point shy of a win while Brooke Pfeiffer displayed the Skyhawks' highest score of the event with 75 points.

Three home competitions are next on UT Martin's fall docket, starting with a home weekend against Sweet Briar College (Oct. 11) and South Dakota State (Oct. 12).
