LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Tennessee at Martin cross country squads returned to competition this morning with a strong showing at the Louisville Cross Country Classic ran at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park with several new personal-records throughout the scoring lineup.
With the men's squad competing against some of the nation's top teams in the 8k event, the team's top seven competitors each notched new PRs. Leading the way for the Skyhawks for the third consecutive meet this season was junior Ryan Ford who earned top-25 honors with a 20th place finish in a stacked field, crossing the line at 24:30.8. Newcomer Oisin O'Gailin finished second for the Skyhawk men at 24:47.6 followed by Lenny Baumann, Daniel Smith and Marcos Macias to round out the scoring five. Additionally, Tim Dye and Will Oglesby also posted PRs in the meet.
"The men really ran strong today and took advantage of the opportunity that was presented to the team," UT Martin head coach Peter Dalton said. "The numerous PR's were well deserved."

In the women's 5k, freshman Breanna Alderton blazed the way for the Skyhawk women followed with a 30-second PR of 18:20.4. The freshman was followed closely behind by another rookie standout in Breanna Roy who finished at 18:33.6. Both women ran well, leading the team like veterans with season-bests.
"For the ladies, the freshmen duo of Alderton and Roy really stepped up," Dalton said. "These ladies are laying the foundation of success for the women's team in the future."

UT Martin will return to action at the Wisconsin Pre-National Invitational in Madison, Wisc. on Saturday, October 13.
