MADISON, Wisc. – The University of Tennessee at Martin cross country squads took their talents north for its first appearance in the Wisconsin Pre-Nationals race held at the Zimmer Championship Course in Madison, Wisc. on Saturday morning.
In the men's 8k, the squad put its 15th regional ranking to the test against numerous nationally and regionally ranked opponents. Junior Ryan Ford paced the group for the fourth straight time this season followed closely by freshman Oisin O'Gailin. The trio of Daniel Smith, Marcos Macias and Lenny Baumann rounded out the top five. O'Gailin, Smith and Macias each stepped up in the deeply competitive race to put the men's team over other successful programs.

For the women, freshman Breanna Alderton finished first for the Skyhawks in her 6k debut with a time of 22:34.8 followed by another standout freshman Breanna Roy at 22:52.2. Lydia Lee, Alexis Grandys and Summer Pierson rounded out the women's team in another deeply competitive field. The meet served as the first introduction for many of the women to 6k distance.

"The core group of each team continues to make progress," UT Martin head coach Peter Dalton said. "The conditions and the competition, were very tough. With that being said, the Skyhawks are going in the right direction as the championship segment of the season approaches."
UT Martin will return to action with the Ohio Valley Conference Cross Country Championships to be ran on Saturday, October 27.
