OHIO VALLEY CONFERENCE PLAY STARTS FOR UTM VOLLEYBALL THIS WEEKEND AT HOME

MARTIN, Tenn. – Nearly one month in to the 2018 University of Tennessee at Martin volleyball season, the Skyhawks crank up Ohio Valley Conference play this weekend when it hosts Murray State at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 21 and Austin Peay at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22.

UT Martin (6-7) will look to continue its recent success in Skyhawk Fieldhouse, as the Skyhawks are 3-1 at home this season. UT Martin took down defending Southland Conference champion Central Arkansas (3-2), Memphis (3-2) and Florida A&M (3-2) in the Skyhawk Invitational on Aug. 30-Sept. 2.

Last weekend at the Wildcat Classic, UT Martin ran into some tough luck against a stacked field that boasts a 29-8 overall record. Senior outside hitter Megan Fair captured all-tournament accolades after leading the Skyhawks with 19 kills to go along with 33 digs (3.30 per set) and three service aces. Brooke Gyori (4.60 digs per set) and Justine Walker (1.00 blocks per set) helped carry UT Martin defensively.

The Skyhawks lead the OVC and rank 17th nationally in service aces, touting 1.56 per set. Gyori ranks second in the league in digs per set (4.87) while Kenzie Hinshaw (third with 0.37 service aces per set, eighth with 7.96 assists per set) and Gintare Mackeviciute (sixth with a .281 attack percentage) also rank in the OVC's top-10 in their respective categories.

Murray State (6-6) is coming off a 1-2 weekend at the Billiken Invitational. Senior outside hitter Dacia Brown earned an all-tournament nod after averaging 3.64 kills per set on a .245 attack percentage. The Racer duo of Rachel Giustino (4.24) and Brown (3.73) rank as the top two OVC players in kills per set while also ranking first and second in points per set at 4.82 and 3.88, respectively.

Defending league champion Austin Peay enters the weekend with a 10-2 overall record, including a victory over Ole Miss in last weekend's Rice Adidas Invitational. Brooke Moore (Offensive) and Kristen Stucker (Setter) each nabbed OVC Player of the Week honors as Moore dialed up 3.92 kills per set on a .223 hitting percentage while Stucker divvied out 10.92 assists per set for an offense that hit .225 for the tournament. The Governors pace the league in hitting percentage (.251), assists (13.56 per set) and kills (14.44 per set).
