
SOCCER SKYHAWKS SET TO OPEN OVC ACTION WITH SUNDAY BOUT AT SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin soccer team kicks off Ohio Valley Conference action this weekend as the Skyhawks travel to Southeast Missouri to take on the Redhawks on Sunday, Sept. 16 with first touch slated for 2 p.m.
UT Martin (5-2) is off to its best start since the 2011 season in which the team ended up winning the OVC Championship and claimed an NCAA Tournament berth. The Skyhawks are also coming off of a record-setting performance against Union as they reeled off a program-high 42 shots, tying the Oct. 29, 2015 match against Southeast Missouri.
Leading the way for UT Martin is Jaden Hildreth (four goals), Bella Roberts (three goals, two assists) and Skylor Keane (three goals, one assist). Dane Kaldaridou and Blare Gerido have tallied a pair of goals apiece while Kaldaridou has notched an assist. Rounding out scoring for the Skyhawks is the foursome of Samantha Kelly, Alice Adams, Nicole Collins and Amy McGivern with a goal each. Katelyn Colvin is tied with Roberts with a pair of assists while six other UT Martin players have an assist on the season.
The trio of Kamryn Chappell, Jacalyn Schubring and Kaci Mitchell have been a constant on the Skyhawk back line as Chappell's 534 minutes pace the club. The defense has allowed a paltry 7.9 shots per match while allowing the offense to explode for 22.7 shots per contest.
UT Martin goalkeeping has been outstanding as the trio of Erica Myers, Makenzie Crawford and Callie Thomas have allowed a combined eight goals on the season (1.14 goals against average) and have racked up 16 total saves in 630 minutes played between the posts. Myers has seen the bulk of the time in goal as her 315 minutes and 13 saves are best amongst the goalkeeping corps. Crawford has notched a team-best three victories while
Myers is right behind her with a pair of wins.
Southeast Missouri (2-4) is led by Esmie Gonzales, Morgan McCourt (two goals apiece) and Jennifer Brien (one goal). Emily Holten paces the Redhawks in assists as she has tallied two on the season while Hannah Compernolle, Cassidi Tomsu and Katie Wegmann have all accounted for one each.
Maddie Gleeson has played the majority of the season in goal for Southeast Missouri as she has logged 360 minutes and tallied a team-best 14 saves while sporting a respectable 1.50 GAA under 20th-year head coach Heather Nelson.
