SKYHAWK VOLLEYBALL TRAVELS TO ARIZONA FOR THREE MATCHES IN THE WILDCAT CLASSIC

MARTIN, Tenn. – For the first time in program history, the University of Tennessee at Martin volleyball program will play in the state of Arizona as the Skyhawks take part in the Wildcat Classic.
UT Martin takes on host Arizona (12 p.m. CST) and UC Davis (6:30 p.m. CST) on Friday, Sept. 14 before squaring off against New Mexico State at 12 p.m. CST on Saturday, Sept. 15. It will be the first time in school history that the Skyhawks face any of those three opponents as the stacked tournament field boasts a combined 29-9 record.
This upcoming tournament will serve as a Homecoming of sorts for five Skyhawks. Maddi Noble (Glendale), Karen Scanlon (Scottsdale), Jessica Reynolds (Chandler), Justine Walker (Gilbert) and Logan Wallick (Waddell) all hail from less than 150 miles from the tournament site of Tucson.
Through 10 matches this season, UT Martin (6-4) is off to its best start since the 2013 campaign. The Skyhawks lead the Ohio Valley Conference with 1.64 service aces per set while Brooke Gyori ranks 10th nationally with 156 digs (4.93 per set). Kenzie Hinshaw (8.44 assists per set, eighth) and Gintare Mackeviciute (.281 attack percentage, 10th) also rank in the top-10 in the OVC in their respective categories.
The Skyhawks are coming off a 2-1 weekend at the Mercer Bears Classic. Gyori (51 digs, 4.64 per set) and Hannah Phillips (3.00 kills per set, .325 attack percentage) were each named to the all-tournament squad while Jamie Rys (25 kills, 29 digs, six service aces, five blocks) also excelled for UT Martin.
Arizona (8-1) began the season on an eight-match winning streak before falling to New Mexico State in five sets last Saturday. Kendra Dahlke ranks second in the NCAA Division I ranks with 5.61 kills and 5.89 points per set while Julia Patterson hands out 11.70 assists per set for the Wildcats. Makenna Martin (3.79 digs per set) and Devyn Cross (0.97 blocks per set) are defensive leaders for 27th-year head coach David Rubio.
UC Davis (7-2) comes into the tournament as winners of its last four matches. Fifth-year head coach Dan Conners oversees an Aggie defense that ranks third in the nation with 19.70 digs per set. Malia Bolko (5.73 digs per set) and Lauren Jackson (1.13 blocks per set) guide the UC Davis defense while Emily Allen's 4.30 kills per set helps ignite the Aggies offensively.
The defending Western Athletic Conference champion is New Mexico State, who has won six matches in a row for an 8-2 start to the season. Savannah Davison (3.35 kills per set), Tatyana Battle (3.11 digs per set) and Lia Mosher (1.10 blocks per set) rank as statistical leaders for Mike Jordan, who is in his 21st season as the head coach for the Aggies.
