
UT MARTIN MEN’S BASKETBALL ADDS TRENT WILLIAMS TO THE FOLD FOR 2018-19 SEASON

MARTIN, Tenn. – University of Tennessee at Martin head men's basketball coach Anthony Stewart announced the signing of Trent Williams, a 6-3, 190-pound junior guard out of Gillette College in Gillette, Wyo.
Williams, who hails from Houston, Texas, is the sixth addition this offseason for the Skyhawk men's basketball program. Williams teams up with Jeremy Joyner (Jonesborough, Ga./Roane State CC), Parker Stewart (Union City, Tenn./Pittsburgh), Charles Henderson (Houston, Texas/Trinidad State JC), Derek Hawthorne, Jr. (Indianapolis, Ind./John A. Logan College) and Quintin Dove (Cleveland, Ohio/Cuyahoga CC) as UT Martin signees for 2018-19.
"Trent is a very accomplished player who is extremely athletic," Stewart said. "He has good length which allows him to play multiple positions. He is a statsheet stuffer – he can shoot, handle the ball, rebound and pass at very high levels. We are beyond excited to welcome him to the Skyhawk program."
Williams was a key ingredient to a nationally ranked Gillette College squad that posted a 27-5 record last season under head coach Shawn Neary. An All-Region IX second-team honoree, Williams was the floor general for a Pronghorn team that ranked in the top-10 nationally in field goals made per game (35.7, fourth), assists per game (20.7, sixth) and points per game (96.2, seventh).
Last season, Williams ranked sixth in the NJCAA Division-I ranks with 230 assists – divvying out 7.7 dimes per contest. He also averaged 13.3 points and 6.6 rebounds per game while shooting 56.6 percent (138-of-244) from the floor, including a 39.6 percent (21-for-53) mark from three-point range. In addition to assists, he led Gillette College in minutes played (952), free throws made (103), free throws attempted (144) and steals (65) while sporting an impressive 2:1 assist-to-turnover ratio.
Williams was responsible for a pair of triple-doubles (10 points, 13 rebounds, 13 assists against Miles on Jan. 10; 11 points, 11 rebounds, 12 assists against Little Big Horn on Jan. 13) and eight double-doubles as a sophomore. He poured in at least 20 points in four different games while also producing eight double-digit assist outings and five double-digit rebounding performances in 2017-18. He compiled season-highs of 25 points (on 10-of-13 shooting) and 16 assists on Nov. 4 against Bismarck State. He also boasted 13 games of three or more steals, including a season-high six steals against Colorado Northwestern on Nov. 16.
As a freshman, Williams was part of a Pronghorn program that went 32-4 overall, won the Region IX championship, advanced to the NJCAA Tournament Sweet 16 round and finished the season ranked No. 13 in the country. Gillette College led the nation in scoring (3,554 points), lighting up the scoreboard for 98.7 points per outing in 2016-17.
Williams maintained averages of 12.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and a team-best 4.8 assists per game in 2016-17. He shot 52.4 percent from the field (176-of-336) while swiping a team-high 76 steals as a freshman. He accumulated four 20-plus point outings, including a season-best 23 points (5-of-7 from three-point land) against Miles on Feb. 18. He tallied a double-double (15 points, 10 rebounds) at Bismarck State on Dec. 10 while pulling down a season-high 11 rebounds at Sheridan on Feb. 1. He tallied eight or more assists on six different occasions (including a season-best nine dimes at Southern Idaho on Dec. 3) to go along with 22 multi-steal performances (season-high five swipes against Western Wyoming on Jan. 21).
At the prep level, Williams averaged 15.4 points, 7.2 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 3.0 steals per game for head coach Wayne Jones during his senior season at Episcopal High School in Bellaire, Texas. He helped the Knights go 28-7 in 2015-16, the same season he earned Southwest Preparatory All-Conference accolades.
