SKYHAWK FOOTBALL OPENS CAMP WITH 100 PLAYERS FOR PRACTICE #1

MARTIN, Tenn. – 100 members of the University of Tennessee at Martin football team reported for the first official practice of fall camp on Friday morning at Hardy Graham Stadium.
Friday marked the first of 20 practices during the fall camp segment before beginning game preparations for the season opener against Football Bowl Subdivision and Southeastern Conference foe Missouri on Saturday, Sept. 1.
Armed with a multitude of returning starters on both sides of the ball, the Skyhawks donned their helmets and practice jerseys in preparation for the upcoming season. With a talented crop of returners looking to leave their mark on the program, UT Martin also welcomes 44 newcomers to camp.
With the first day of camp, UT Martin head coach Jason Simpson opens his 13th camp at the helm while looking to improve day by day over the next couple of weeks. "That first practice is never as clean as you want it to be," Simpson said. "We went in the morning so we fought through the heat but we got a good base point where we will get better this afternoon and tomorrow."
When asked about what fans and players will expect to see over the coming week, Simpson stated "we will be working on a lot of install and the culture of how we expect our practices to be. Even the older guys need a little reminding on the first day but we will develop habits. I look forward to putting on the pads on for Practice #3 and to start seeing some physicality."
UT Martin will return to the gridiron on Saturday, Aug. 4 (3:30 p.m.) and Sunday, Aug. 5 (7 p.m.) to wrap up the weekend. The Skyhawks will begin a fresh week of practices on Monday, Aug. 6 which will feature a total of six practices along with the team's lone off day on Thursday, Aug. 9. The Skyhawks will then cap off next week with the team's first scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 11 at 7 p.m.
