MARTIN, Tenn. – Jeremy Joyner, a 6-9, 215-pound center out of Roane State Community College in Harriman, Tenn., has signed with the University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball program.
A Jonesborough, Ga. native, Joyner will be a junior for Skyhawk head coach Anthony Stewart in 2018-19.
"Jeremy is a long, athletic post player who plays with a really high motor," Stewart said. "He's a great student and he fits seamlessly within our program's basketball culture. I'm glad we were able to get a high character addition like Jeremy this late in the recruiting process."
Joyner was part of a Roane State squad who went 17-13 overall last season under head coach Randy Nesbit. The talented post presence averaged 11.4 points to go along with a team-highs of 6.8 rebounds per game and a scorching .628 field goal percentage (120-of-191). Joyner also ranked second on the Raiders with 26 blocked shots while playing in all 30 contests in 2017-18.
As a sophomore, Joyner produced 18 double-digit scoring games, including a trio of 20-plus point performances. His career-best 22-point outing came on a 7-of-10 shooting effort against Walters State on March 3 while he also notched 20-point efforts against Spartanburg Methodist (including 12-of-12 from the free throw line) on Nov. 28 and against Action Sports Academy (7-for-9 from the floor) on Dec. 11.
Joyner corralled six double-doubles in 2017-18, three of which came in a seven-game stretch during the heart of Region VII play in February. He hauled in a career-high 13 rebounds against Maryville College on Jan. 8 and again against Chattanooga State on Feb. 14. Joyner also established himself as a feared rim protector, as he dialed up six multi-block performances with three-block efforts against Jackson State (Dec. 1) and Snead State (Dec. 14).
Joyner began his collegiate career under head coach Jesse Watkins at the College of Coastal Georgia, located in Brunswick, Ga. He played in 19 games in 2016-17, with his best performance coming at Martin Methodist (eight points, six rebounds in 20 minutes off the bench) on Dec. 31. He also produced three multi-block outings as a true freshman, ranking third on the team in that category.
At the prep level, Joyner averaged 12.6 points, 9.0 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game at Drew High School as a senior. His high school career culminated with a state tournament appearance in 2015-16 as he established himself as one of the best shot blockers in the metro Atlanta area.
Joyner is part of a five-man signing class for UT Martin men's basketball in 2018-19. He joins Parker Stewart (Union City, Tenn./Pittsburgh), Charles Henderson (Houston, Texas/Trinidad State JC) and Derek Hawthorne, Jr. (Indianapolis, Ind./John A. Logan College) as spring signees while Quintin Dove (Cleveland, Ohio/Cuyahoga CC) inked his commitment to the Skyhawks last fall.
