The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team will aim to put the finishing touches on a lengthy four-game road swing with a matchup at in-state foe Lipscomb on Sunday, Dec. 9. Tipoff from Allen Arena is scheduled for 4 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
The Skyhawks (5-3) enter the contest looking to move past their last matchup in which the squad proved to be no match against No. 4 ranked Louisville falling in the contest 102-62. Currently the Skyhawks are 1-2 on the road swing with losses at Northwestern and Louisville while picking up a last-second victory against Chattanooga.
UT Martin presents a high-powered scoring offense which ranks 17th in the nation with 83.5 points per game. Additionally, the team's pressure defense ranks 13th in the nation behind 102 steals on the season. Sophomore Chelsey Perry leads the team with 12.1 points per game while tallying 4.5 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game. Freshman Damiah Griffin ranks as the team's other top scorer with 11.0 points per game.
Lipscomb is 2-6 on the season while posting a 1-4 mark against other members of the Ohio Valley Conference – Tennessee State (W, 64-62), Jacksonville State (L, 58-46), Murray State (L, 97-61), Austin Peay (L, 70-58) and Belmont (L, 83-43). The Lady Bisons have lost five consecutive contest while posting an average margin of defeat of 23.2 points per game. Lipscomb is led by the play of sophomore guard Taylor Clark who averaged 11.3 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.
Sunday's contest marks the fifth meeting between the two programs with UT Martin holding a 3-1 advantage. The Skyhawks have not met since the 2009 season with Lipscomb picking up a 61-56 home victory.
