BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – For the second time this month, University of Tennessee at Martin junior forward Quintin Dove was rewarded for his strong play with an Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week honor.
Dove becomes only the seventh player in school history to earn the OVC Newcomer of the Week award twice in a calendar month. The Cleveland, Ohio native – who also claimed the award on Dec. 3 – joins an exclusive list that includes Twymond Howard (February 2015), Deville Smith (January 2015), Delrico Lane (December 2008), Lester Hudson (January 2008), Brian Foster (February 2001) and Michael Hart (February 1995).
A 6-8, 200-pound transfer from Cuyahoga Community College, Dove battled foul trouble but produced a stat line of 20 points, five rebounds, three steals and two blocks in only 19 minutes of action at Bowling Green on Sunday. He shot 8-of-14 from the floor, including a three-pointer and a perfect 3-for-3 effort from the charity stripe in the return to his home state.
Dove currently ranks third in the OVC in field goal percentage (.591, 52-of-88) and fifth in free throw percentage (.821, 23-for-28). He is averaging 14.2 points while logging just 22.2 minutes over the past nine contests. On the season, Dove leads the Skyhawks in blocked shots (10) and also ranks second in rebounding with 4.5 boards per game.
UT Martin begins OVC play this week with a pair of road matchups, visiting Eastern Illinois on Thursday, Jan. 3 before traveling to Southeast Missouri on Saturday, Jan. 5.
