MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team put on an offensive explosion with five players in double figures to surge past visiting Division II foe Alabama Huntsville on Wednesday evening 100-69.
The Skyhawks (7-3) remained perfect at home behind a strong offensive showing in which the team shot 57.1 percent from the field and 82.4 percent from the free throw line. Each of the team's available 12 players played and scored in the contest for UT Martin. While the scoring was aplenty, the Skyhawks used their offense to jump start the team with 26 forced turnovers and 33 points off said turnovers.
Sophomore guard Zaire Hicks paced all scorers with 19 points in the contest to mark a new career-high for the Memphis native. Freshman Brittni Moore ranked second on the squad with 13 points on the night while Aundrea Adams (12 points), Damiah Griffin (11 points) and Emanye Robertson (10 points) rounded out the group in double figures. Also posting nice statistical nights was the sophomore pair of Maddie Waldrop and Tamiah Stanford which tallied eight rebounds each.
"I liked how we came out early and really took control of the contest," UT Martin head coach Kevin McMillan said. "With a lot of time off since last playing, we are still looking for some consistency. At this point in the season it is all about finding our way to get ready for conference play. Hopefully there are some things to build on over the next couple weeks to three months to be able to be a factor come tournament time."
The game served as an exhibition for UAH with the Chargers playing their fifth game in nine days. Aryn Sanders paced the Chargers with 15 points and six rebounds in the contest.
UT Martin will take off several days for the Christmas holiday before returning to action on Saturday, Dec. 29 against Mississippi Valley State. Tipoff from the Elam Center is scheduled for 1 p.m.
