MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin volleyball squad faces a pair of Ohio Valley Conference opponents on its home floor this weekend, as it takes on Tennessee State at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 19 and Belmont at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20.
          Â
Friday's match serves as a "Spike Cancer" match in memory of Anna Kate Wenz. The Skyhawks will don pink socks and shoelaces to raise awareness for cancer.

UT Martin (9-12, 3-5 OVC) returns to Skyhawk Fieldhouse this weekend after five of its last six matches were played on the road. This weekend spurs a stretch where UT Martin plays six of its final nine matches of the regular season in front of its home crowd.
          Â
Each of the Skyhawks' last seven matches have gone into four sets, including a split of two of midweek OVC road games last week. UT Martin pushed league co-leader Morehead State before falling 21-25, 25-22, 22-25, 22-25 on Wednesday but bounced back for a 25-18, 13-25, 25-19, 25-18 victory over Eastern Kentucky on Thursday.
          Â
Megan Fair paced the Skyhawks in kills per set (3.62) and attack percentage (.256) while adding 2.75 digs per set last weekend. Brooke Gyori scooped up 5.75 digs per set, aided by a career-best 34 digs on Wednesday at Morehead State. Hannah Phillips (2.62 kills per set on a .254 hitting percentage) and Gintare Mackeviciute (1.25 blocks per set) also performed well in the two matches last week.
          Â
UT Martin is well represented in the OVC's individual statistical rankings, as Gyori's 4.93 digs per set (second), Mackeviciute's .282 attack percentage (fifth) and Kenzie Hinshaw's 0.33 service aces per set (fifth) each rank in the top-five. Mackeviciute leads the league with 1.19 blocks per set in league play while Justine Walker (third with 1.12 blocks per set), Karen Scanlon (sixth with a .310 hitting percentage) and Phillips (eighth with a .293 hitting percentage) also appear in the OVC-only rankings.
          Â
Engineering one of the league's biggest turnarounds from 2017 is Tennessee State (7-12, 5-3 OVC), who began the conference season with five consecutive victories. The reigning adidas OVC Defensive Player of the Week is freshman libero Gina Rivera Ortiz, who hauled in a whopping 7.11 digs per set against Murray State and Austin Peay last week. In league play, Rivera Ortiz leads the OVC with 6.07 digs per set while Julia Pierson ranks atop the conference with 4.52 points per set.
          Â
Belmont comes into the weekend with a 2-18 overall record and a 2-6 OVC mark. The Bruins have won two of their last three matches, including an impressive five-set victory over OVC co-leader Austin Peay last Friday. In that match, Carly Mason tallied a double-double with 30 assists and 11 digs while Taylor Floyd recorded a career-best 16 kills. Akia Warrior's 0.43 service aces per set against league opposition is good enough for the second-highest total in the OVC.
