SKYHAWK GOLF ROUNDS OUT FALL WITH A SIXTH PLACE FINISH AT AUSTIN PEAY TOURNAMENT

DICKSON, Tenn. – Senior Cameron Smith led the University of Tennessee at Martin golf team today in the shortened F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate, played at the Greystone Golf Course.
After several rain delays halted yesterday's action, the 10 teams in the tournament field took to the course this morning and finished out the first round before playing the full second round.
Playing as an individual, Smith wrapped up his first round with a 74 before generating a 69 in Round 2. His final score of 143 (-1) ranked 13th in the field of 66 golfers as the Brentwood, Tenn. native generated a team-high eight birdies in the tournament – five of which came during today's second round.
As a team, UT Martin shot a 583 (+7) for the 36-hole tournament, coming away with a tournament-high 124 pars. The Skyhawks tallied a 294 in the two-day first round while improving for a 289 in Round 2. Overall, the eight UT Martin golfers combined for 35 birdies and three of the six eagles in the entire tournament.
Tate Chumley and Shelden Barina led the way for the Skyhawks in the first round, tallying even-par 72's. Chumley's 16 birdies in the opening round led all golfers in the field. Ross Redmont and Peyton Dix each posted scores of 75 while Nick Wolf's 76 barely missed the countable barrier.
This afternoon, Redmont led the way with a 71 and was closely followed by 72's by both Chumley and Wolf. Dix's 74 rounded out the team scoring while Barina carded a 77.
Jack Story and Mason Chandler also each competed as individuals for UT Martin. Story opened his tournament with a 1-under par 71 before finishing with a 77 in the second round. Chandler posted scores of 76 in Round 1 and 80 in Round 2.
Overall, Chumley's even-par 144 featured one eagle, two birdies and a tournament-best 29 pars. Redmont collected three of his four birdies in the tournament in the second round on his way to a 146 (+2). Wolf came away with seven birdies – five in Round 2 alone – to finish with a 148 (+4) while Dix and Barina both generated four birdies and finished with identical scores of 149 (+5).
Story and Chandler each collected three birdies and one eagle apiece, finishing with scores of 148 (+4) and 156 (+12), respectively.
This tournament was the fifth and final event on the fall portion of UT Martin's 2018-19 schedule. The Skyhawks open their spring season on Feb. 23-25 at the Loyola Intercollegiate in Goodyear, Ariz.
