Things couldn't have started out better for the Skyhawks offensively, as UT Martin hit .519 (15 kills, one error) in 27 swings in the opening set. Four different UT Martin players were responsible for the team's first four kills while a Fair kill opened up a 13-10 Skyhawk advantage. The Colonels closed the gap to two points (20-18) before the Skyhawks unreeled five unanswered points to close out the match as Gintare Mackeviciute had two kills and an assisted block during the run. Fair had five kills in nine attempts in the first set.
Â
Eastern Kentucky came out swinging in the second stanza, taking an 11-6 lead before tacking on a 7-0 run. A service ace by Gyori capped off a 4-1 surge for UT Martin to make the score 21-11 but the Skyhawks would not get back within single digits for the duration of the set. Hinshaw accumulated team-highs of four assists and five digs for UT Martin.

Fair (four kills) and Gyori (five digs) helped guide UT Martin to the 2-1 lead in the match with strong performances in the third set.
Â
It was all Skyhawks in the fourth set, as UT Martin didn't trail at any point in the stanza. Back-to-back kills by Fair spurred a 7-0 run that resulted in an 8-1 Skyhawk lead to start off the match. Jamie Rys had two straight kills for UT Martin as the Skyhawks stretched their lead out to 17-8. Eastern Kentucky used a 7-2 run to pull within four points at 19-15 but that was as close as it would get as a Scanlon kill put the finishing touches on a potential Colonel comeback. Phillips' five kills paced UT Martin in the final set.
Â
The Skyhawks now have eight days off before beginning a three-match homestand next weekend. UT Martin hosts OVC foes Tennessee State at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 19 and Belmont at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20.
