Marshall Edges Skyhawks at Home

MARTIN, Tenn. – Despite 15 shots in Sunday night's game against Marshall at Skyhawk Soccer Field, the University of Tennessee at Martin soccer team could not find the back of the net and fell 1-0 to the Thundering Herd.
Marshall scored the only goal in the 30th minute when Wiktoria Mikrut launched a corner kick right in front of the goal, and Lea Misch headed it home.
Two of the best chances of the night for UT Martin came in the first and final minutes of the opening half. Instead of kicking the game off as normal, Alberte Amby hammered the ball to the center of the goal, which was bobbled by Marshall goalkeeper Emma Durand, but ultimately saved. As the final seconds of the half ticked down, Unni Wolf rocketed a shot into the upper left corner of the goal, but it was ruled that the ball did not cross the plane of the goal before the clock reached zero, so it was disallowed.
The Skyhawks placed six of their 15 shots in the game on target, while Marshall was on goal for five of seven shots. Wolf finished the game with five shots, while Alex Weihs had three and Peyton Cook and Yaritza Trejo had two each. Mac Titus finished her 90 minutes between the posts with three saves.
The Skyhawks return to action at Skyhawk Soccer Field Thursday when they host Belmont at 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
