- The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball (13-10, 9-5 OVC) team ended Morehead State's six-game win streak with a 64-58 victory over the Eagles Saturday at the Kathleen & Tom Elam Center. Heading into the fourth quarter with a 55-40 lead, the two teams matched each other point-for-point with Morehead State trailing by only three with 48 seconds to play. However, a pull-up jumper from Sidni Middleton and a free throw from Cam Ward in the final 20 seconds of the contest was enough to put the Eagles away, after not allowing a Morehead State field goal for the last 3:42 of the game. The trio of Kenley McCarn, Brittani Wells and Zy Thompson combined for 50 of UT Martin's 64 points in the game. McCarn led UT Martin with 20 points, including four 3-pointers, while Wells had 17 with five 3-pointers. Meanwhile, Zy Thompson finished the game with 13 points, four-rebounds and a career-best five steals. On the boards, Cam Ward led the way with a career-high seven, to go along with five points, an assist and a steal.
- Kenley McCarn currently leads the Skyhawks with 6.1 points per game, while Zy Thompson and Sidni Middleton follow at 10.7 and 9.5, respectively. On the boards, Thompson leads UT Martin with 5.8 rebounds per game, while Brittani Wells leads in assists and steals at 3.7 and 1.9. As a team, the Skyhawks are averaging 64.8 points and 33.6 rebounds per game, while their opponents average 62.5 and 38.7. - Saturday will be the seventh meeting between UT Martin and Lindenwood, with the Lions leading the all-time series, 4-2. The Skyhawks won the first meeting between the two teams earlier this season, taking down the Lions, 73-70 in Martin. In Saint Charles, Lindenwood has won two of the three previous meetings.
- The Skyhawks have made a 3-point field goal in 536 consecutive games, a streak dating back to Feb. 3, 2009 against Austin Peay and ranking seventh, nationally.
- Junior Brittani Wells was named as the OVC Newcomer of the Week Tuesday. Wells had a phenomenal week, averaging 15.0 points, 3.7 assists, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.7 steals per game over three games in six days. She also had the hot hand, shooting 60.0 percent (15-25) from the floor, a blistering 64.7 percent (11-17) from 3-point range, and was perfect at the free throw line at 4-for-4. She scored 10 or more points in each of UT Martin's three games during the week. She posted a career-high 18 points against Southern Indiana and followed it up with 17 against Morehead State. In addition, the junior committed just four turnovers and had 11 assists for an assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.75.
- At 93.0-percent, Sidni Middleton currently ranks fourth in the nation and second in the OVC in free throw percentage. So far this season, Middleton has made 53 of her 57 free-throw attempts.
- The Skyhawks currently have the 59th-best field goal percentage defense in the nation at 37.6-percent, while they rank 89th in the nation in steals per game at 9.7. In addition, the Skyhawks are ranked 116th in defensive rebounds per game at 26.0. At the free throw line, UT Martin is 83rd in the nation in free throws made per game (13.6) and 95th in free throw percentage (73.8).
- Kenley McCarn has scored 10 or more points in 22 of the Skyhawks' 22 games this season. She is averaging 16.3 points on the season and has scored 10 or more points in 30 of her last 33 games.
- February has been by far the best month of head coach Kevin McMillan's career. He is currently 103-28 (.786) during the month. This past January was also kind to McMillan as he went 6-3, his best record in the month since 2020-21 when he went 7-1. When the calendar flips to the new year McMillan also excels, as he is currently 217-98 (.688) in the months of January, February and March over the course of his career.
- The Skyhawks are currently 9-2 overall and 6-1 in OVC play at the Kathleen & Tom Elam Center this season. UT Martin won seven straight home games between losses to then No. 8 Tennessee and Little Rock.
- UT Martin has posted a 158-57 record at home during the Kevin McMillan Era, dating back to 2009. Since taking over as head coach, the Skyhawks have notched a .735 winning percentage. The home squad has also posted a 115-31 record in the Elam Center (.788) against OVC foes during the same span.
- Skyhawk guard Kenley McCarn has started her career on the right foot by scoring double figures in 79 of her 90 career games. Last season, she became just the 19th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points and currently averages 15.5 points per game for her career. With 13 points at Morehead State, she officially became one of the Top 10 scorers in UT Martin history. She currently ranks 7th in program history with 1,412 career points, last passing the great Pat Head Summitt.
