MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin football team will look to return to the win column this weekend when the Skyhawks travel to the Palmetto State for an Ohio Valley Conference matchup against Charleston Southern on Saturday, Nov. 7. Kickoff from Buccaneer Field in Charleston, S.C., is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT.
The matchup features a pair of teams looking to gain momentum down the stretch of the regular season as UT Martin (3-6, 2-2 OVC) squares off against Charleston Southern (4-5, 1-3 OVC). With three games remaining on the schedule, the Skyhawks will look to strengthen their position in the conference standings while attempting to remain unbeaten in the all-time series against the Buccaneers.
UT Martin enters the contest looking to bounce back from consecutive setbacks against Western Illinois and Eastern Illinois. The Skyhawks most recently suffered a 45-16 defeat to Eastern Illinois during Homecoming at Hardy M. Graham Stadium, despite finding success on the ground with 236 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Junior running back Chris Franklin provided the offensive highlights against the Panthers, scoring both UT Martin touchdowns while rushing for 67 yards on 11 carries. Freshman Jaydon Peete also turned in a strong performance, leading the team with 99 rushing yards on 11 attempts, including a 50-yard burst. The Skyhawks finished with 341 yards of total offense but struggled to contain an Eastern Illinois attack that accumulated 552 yards.
Under the direction of 21st-year head coach Jason Simpson, UT Martin will look to rediscover the form that helped the Skyhawks compete for four consecutive conference championships from 2021-2024. With the team's next OVC win, Simpson will move into a tie for second place in OVC history for conference victories.
Charleston Southern dropped its most recent contest in an offensive shootout against Western Illinois, dropping their Homecoming matchup by a 42-35 margin. The Buccaneers have been competitive, dropping each of its three OVC contests by seven points or fewer.
Saturday's matchup will mark the fifth all-time meeting between the programs and UT Martin's second trip to Buccaneer Field. UT Martin has enjoyed considerable success against Charleston Southern, holding a perfect 4-0 advantage in the all-time series. The Skyhawks have won each of the three meetings since the programs became conference opponents in 2023. The most recent meeting came on Nov. 15, 2025, when UT Martin claimed a hard-fought 17-14 victory in Martin.
