MARTIN, Tenn. – Peyton Cook's 50th-minute goal gave the University of Tennessee at Martin soccer team a 1-0 Ohio Valley Conference win over Lindenwood Sunday night at the Skyhawk Soccer Field in Martin.
Early in the second half, Cook dispossessed a Lindenwood player, dribbled the ball and fired from 25 yards out, just beyond the top of the penalty arc. The ball went sailing into the top right corner, through the hands of the Lindenwood goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
UT Martin limited the Lions to just two shots on goal and eight overall, while the Skyhawks had 15 total shots and seven on goal. Alex Weihs had seven of UT Martin's 15 shots on the night, in addition to four of its seven shots on goal.
Mac Titus made two saves and picked up her third consecutive clean sheet and fifth of the season in the win. The fifth-year goalkeeper has not allowed a goal in her last 356:13 between the posts.
With the win, the Skyhawks are now 1-0-1 in league play with four points, placing them tied for second in the league table with Southeast Missouri and just two points behind leaders SIUE.
On Saturday, the Skyhawks continue OVC action at SIUE when they take on the first-place Cougars at 6 p.m.
