MARTIN, Tenn. – The red-hot University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball team looks to extend its winning streak out to five games tomorrow when it collides against the Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles in an Ohio Valley Conference tilt. Tipoff from Evansville, Ind. is set for 7:30 p.m.
The Skyhawks are 4-1 to begin their OVC slate for only the second time in program history (also occurring in 2001-02) and are locked into a four-way tie atop the league standings with Tennessee State, Lindenwood and Southeast Missouri.
UT Martin (12-4) is coming off a remarkable 76-68 come-from-behind victory at Morehead State on Thursday, clawing all the way back from a 16-point deficit late in the first half. The Skyhawks placed five scorers in double figures for the first time in almost a calendar year (Jan. 11 at Lindenwood) as Andrija Bukumirović's game-high 18 points led the way. Afan Trnka (season-best 14 points), Filip Radaković (13), seven-time OVC Freshman of the Week winner Matas Deniusas (10) and Pedro Santos (10) also pitched in double-digit scoring performances.
During last season's sweep against Southern Indiana, UT Martin did not trail in either game - leading for a combined 77:56 of clock time. The Skyhawks led by as many as 47 points in a 77-46 win inside Liberty Arena on Dec. 21, 2024 - the largest margin of victory in an OVC contest in school history. Over two months later, Bukumirović (15 points), Trnka (10 points) and Lamine Niang (seven points, career-high 14 rebounds) helped UT Martin defeat the Screaming Eagles, 79-63.
Southern Indiana (3-12, 0-5 OVC) has lost seven straight but each of its last four outings have been decided by an average of 4.8 points per game. That included an 84-76 home setback against Southeast Missouri on Thursday as Cardell Bailey's 20 points off the bench led the way. Two-time OVC Newcomer of the Week Ismail Habib added 18 points while Amaree Brown had 15 points in his season debut for the Screaming Eagles, who pace the OVC in three-point field goals made (8.4 per game).
