
UT Martin Set To Open 2026 Season

MARTIN, Tenn.- The University of Tennessee at Martin track and field teams begin the 2026 season this Friday, Jan. 9 in Birmingham, Ala. at the UAB Blazer Invite and UAB Vulcan Invite (Jan. 10).

The Skyhawks start the new campaign in search of more history following a year that featured multiple podium finishes in the Ohio Valley Conference Championships and a plethora of new school records.

The UAB events this week start the indoor portion of the year which features seven meets and the OVC Indoor Championships (Feb. 24-25). The outdoor schedule begins March 20th and wraps up with the OVC Outdoor Championships (May 14-16) and the NCAA East Regionals (May 27-30).

Following this weekend's meets in Birmingham, Ala., the Skyhawks will make stops at the Vanderbilt Invitational (Jan. 16-17), the Don DeNoon Classic (Jan. 24) and the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational (Jan. 30-31) in the first month of the year. In February, UT Martin takes on the Music City Challenge (Feb. 13-14) and the Redhawks Open (Feb. 20) before concluding the indoor season at the OVC Championships in Louisville, Ky.

At last year's OVC Indoor Championships, the Skyhawks notched three podium finishes in Indianapolis, Ind. The men's distance medley relay team of Brady Millikin, Angus Monro, Samir Smith and David Stukey finished in second place after clocking a time of 9:58.59 which also set a new school record. The women's DMR team of Reese Settle, Maggie Roy, Janay Chapman and Rita Eimer claimed second place after a time of 12:04.33. Roy earned a spot on the podium after taking second-place in the mile race, recording a time of 5:00.88 which was a PR.

The outdoor season begins with a trip north to Murray State for the Margaret Simmons Invitational (March 20-21) and then UT Martin concludes the month of March at Wash U (March 26-27). April holds four meets for the Skyhawks which include the Joey Haines Invite (April 3-4), the Joe Walker Invite (April 10-11), the Georgia Tech Invite (April 17-18) and the Drake Relays (April 22-25). UT Martin makes another trek to Nashville, Tenn. for the Music City Challenge (May 1-2) before the OVC Outdoor Championships. The NCAA East Regionals will be held in Lexington, Ky.

In the 2025 OVC Outdoor Championships, the Skyhawks tallied five podium finishes and captured first place in two events. Roy found her way to the top spot on the podium in the 800m with a time of 2:12.36. Millikin nabbed first place in the 3k steeplechase with a time of 9:24.01. The men's 4x100m team of Smith, Chadwick Stewart, Braxton Sharp and Khalid White landed on the podium with a third-place finish of 40.92. Rita Eimer earned a third-place finish in the 1500m from a time of 4:33.70. Meg Wiginton grabbed third place in the 400m hurdles (1:02.57).

Seventh-year head coach Jolyta Fuller returns numerous student-athletes while adding skilled newcomers for the upcoming schedule. Roy is set to embark on her senior season of track and field while Wiginton and Eliana Oquendo are looking to build on successful freshman years. White (2023 OVC Outdoor Freshman of the Year) and Hank Fisher (eight school records last season) are also set for an exciting campaign. Reigning OVC Cross Country Athlete of the Championship Luke Johnson and All-OVC first teamer Angus Monro are expected to be major contributors this season.
