MARTIN, Tenn. – Competing this weekend for the first time in nearly three months is the University of Tennessee at Martin equestrian team, who host defending national champion No. 2 Georgia on Friday, Jan. 30 and No. 1 Auburn on Saturday, Jan. 31. Both meets will start at 10 a.m. inside the Ned McWherter Agricultural Complex.
The Skyhawks earned a pair of victories during the fall slate with both triumphs coming against Eastern College Athletic Conference competition. UT Martin knocked off Minnesota-Crookston 10-6 in the Oct. 4 season opener before defeating current No. 10 South Dakota State by a sizeable 15-5 margin at home on Oct. 31.
The Skyhawks compiled 46 individual wins and nine MOP's during the fall semester as fences and reining each tallied 14 head-to-head victories apiece. Both flat and horsemanship managed nine wins each while fences' three MOP's led the way for UT Martin. Each of the other three events (flat, horsemanship, reining) generated two MOP's apiece.
Kate Mills' five victories pace all Skyhawk fences riders while she is tied with Averey Pritchard for the best scoring average (80.2 points) on the squad. The trio of Pritchard, Daphne Stavig and Audrey Morris have each nabbed MOP medals in that event so far in 2025-26.
In flat, Lydia Jordan's three head-to-head triumphs lead the way while Mills is the team leader with an 80.0-point scoring average. Shelby Davis and Kathleen DeGenova were responsible for the two UT Martin MOP's in that event during the fall campaign.
Ruby Gunderson (three victories), Olivia Wynn (73.9 scoring average and one MOP) and Kailyn Veale (one MOP) accounted for team-highs for the Skyhawks in horsemanship back in the fall.
Reining has proven to be UT Martin's most consistent group during the first six meets of the 2025-26 season. Abby Tibbits came away with a team-best four victories while Stevie Brown (team-high 69.6 scoring average), Elise Mason (one MOP) and Claire Carpenter (one MOP) have additionally guided the Skyhawks.
