Skyhawks Open OVC Play Saturday With Southern Indiana

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin soccer team opens Ohio Valley Conference play Saturday when it hosts Southern Indiana at Skyhawk Soccer Field at 7 p.m.
The first half of the season has been up and down for the Skyhawks as they enter the league portion of their schedule with an overall record of 0-4-5. UT Martin is coming off a pair of scoreless draws last week against Southern Indiana and Southern Indiana.
For their performances last week, Parker Gelinas and Mac Titus were once again named as the OVC Defender and Goalkeeper of the Week, respectively. Opponents fired of 32 shots last week, with 14 going on target, none of which found the back of the net. Gelinas, Titus and the defense held the two teams that entered their respective matches with the Skyhawks averaging 2-plus goals per game scoreless. Titus played all 180 minutes between the posts and had two clean sheets to show for it against the Screaming Eagles and Salukis. She saved seven shots in each match last week for a total of 14.
Thursday will be the fourth all-time meeting between Southern Indiana and the Skyhawks, with the series tied, 1-1-1. Saturday marks the Screaming Eagles' second trip to Martin, with their last visit resulting in a 1-1 tie in 2023.
After starting the season 0-5, Southern Indiana has now won three of its four matches and is unbeaten over the same stretch, now standing at 3-5-1. The Screaming Eagles are coming off a convincing 6-1 win over Purdue Fort Wayne last Sunday at home.
As a team, the Screaming Eagles are allowing 2.11 goals per game, while scoring 1.56. Southern Indiana currently averages 12.3 shots per game for a total of 111. In terms of accuracy, the Screaming Eagles have placed 43 of their 111 shots on target, for a percentage of 38.7.
Emerson Grafton leads Southern Indiana on the year with three goals, one assist, 22 shots and eight shots on goal, with two of her goals serving as game winners. Peyton Murphy leads the way for the Screaming Eagles in assists with three, while also scoring a goal
In goal, Merrick Schwalbach is currently 3-4-1 with three shutouts for Southern Indiana this season. She currently has a goals against average of 1.79, a save percentage of 57.6-percent and has made 19 saves.
