UT Martin Is Set For Third FBS Clash With Trip to Missouri State
9/16/2025 10:41:00 AM | Football
The University of Tennessee at Martin football program will once again hit the road this weekend when traveling to new Conference USA member Missouri State for the team's final non-conference game of the season on Saturday, Sept. 30. Kickoff from Robert W. Plaster Stadium is slated for 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
The Skyhawks (0-3) have struggled overcoming a challenging non-conference schedule to date with a pair of matchups against Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) foes and a nationally ranked Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) showdown. One final test of the non-conference slate features the team's third contest against a FBS foe when traveling to newly transitioned Missouri State on Saturday.
Saturday's contest marks the third and final FBS matchups for the Skyhawks this season. UT Martin dropped its season opener to Big 12 foe Oklahoma State (27-7) in the season opener before falling on the road to Conference USA member UTEP (42-17) in Week 2. This marks the second time UT Martin has played three FBS opponents in a single season – matching the 2016 campaign for the Skyhawks which traveled to Cincinnati, Hawai'i and Georgia State. Overall, this game marks the 33rd FBS matchup for the Skyhawks.
For the fifth consecutive season, UT Martin and Missouri State will meet on the gridiron. While the two programs have met 10 times previously, the series has seen increased activity in recent years with four previous meetings since 2021. UT Martin began the current stretch of games by picking up a 32-31 playoff victory in 2021 before alternating regular season victories in the previous three meetings with every contest being decided by seven points or less.
Missouri State (1-2) left the Missouri Valley Football Conference (FCS) and jumped up to Conference USA (FBS) this season for its debut campaign. The Bears have alternated decisions this season with a win against Marshall (21-20) sandwiched between setbacks to USC (73-13) and SMU (28-10) through their first three weeks.
The game will be streamed exclusively on ESPN+ while locally fans can tune into the Skyhawk Sports Network to hear Davis Gregory (play-by-play) and Chuck Hammer (analyst) call the action. Games are broadcast on WCMT "Talk and News You Can Use!" with simulcasts on 1410 AM, 100.5 FM, 92.7 FM, 96.1 FM, 99.7 FM and 103.3 FM.
