
UT Martin Begins 2025 Campaign This Week

MARTIN, Tenn.- Fresh off a successful season in 2024, the University of Tennessee at Martin cross country team returns to action this Friday, Aug. 29 at the Redhawks Invitational.

Fourth-year head coach Jolyta Henderson returns 16 student-athletes with 11 making their way back for the men's team and five returning from the women's team. During the Ohio Valley Conference Cross Country Championships, the men's side notched a third-place finish while the women's team clinched an eighth-place finish.

Among the talented returners for the women's team are Gabby Brown, Danielle Mudd, Maggie Roy, Lauren Sedberry and Reese Settle.

Roy is coming off a track and field season that featured a first-place finish in the 800m (2:12.36) at the OVC Outdoor championships and a second-place finish in the one-mile competition (5:00.88) during the indoor championships.

The women's side took home a season-best fifth-place finish at the UT Martin XC OVC Preview in Union City, Tenn. which was the first meet the Skyhawks hosted since 2021. The personal bests of the returners in the 6K are as listed: Brown (23:24.4), Mudd (22:32.6), Roy (22:09.2), Sedberry (26:31.4) and Settle (22:07.0).

The newest members of the team are freshmen Annie Burns, Sophia Cahill, Charlotte Cones, Brooklyn Flores, Zoe Jones, Brenley Little, Emma Lund and Bethany Ward.

The men's group enters the year returning two all-conference athletes from a year ago including Keagan Enicks (reigning OVC Freshman of the Year) and Angus Monro (All-OVC second team). UT Martin wrapped up last season with four top-five placings and a season-best second-place finish coming at the Memphis Twilight XC Classic.

Enicks and Monro combine with Tristen Bough, Ethan Brinkley, Ridge Bruce, Luke Johnson, Colton King, Christian Patterson, Ben Ruscoe, David Stukey and Tobias Tanui to make up a skilled returning group.

Their PRs in the 8k are as listed: Enicks (24.38.8), Monro (24:36.7), Bough (27:38.2), Brinkley (26:25.7), Bruce (27:53.4), Johnson (24:17.4), King (25:40.3), Patterson (25:37.9), Ruscoe (25:47.1), Stukey (26:02.0) and Tanui (26:43.6).

Along with the Redhawks Invitational on Aug. 29, UT Martin will make stops at the Southern Showcase in Huntsville, Ala. (Sept. 12), the Gans Creek Classic in Columbia, Mo. (Sept. 26) and the Angel Mounds Invitational in Evansville, Ind. during the regular season. The OVC Cross Country Championships are scheduled for Oct. 31 in Charleston, Illinois while the NCAA South Regional will be held in Huntsville, Ala. on Nov. 14.
