MARTIN, Tenn. – While both teams had plenty of opportunities, Thursday's match between the University of Tennessee at Martin soccer team and North Alabama ended in a scoreless draw at Skyhawk Soccer Field in Martin.
"We created a couple of chances in the first half that we needed to finish to help build our confidence, but credit to the UNA goalkeeper for coming up big," said head coach Mike Varga after the match. "We lost our way a bit in the second half and allowed North Alabama to have more of the ball than I would like, but we defended well and were able to keep the clean sheet, which is always important at home. I have no doubt with the talent we have on this team that the goals will come. We just need to keep doing what we are doing and keep getting better every day."
Both teams ended the night with 12 total shots, with six going on target for North Alabama and four finding the mark for UT Martin. Alexandra Weihs and Kylee Thompson each had three shots in the game, including two on goal for Weihs and one for Thompson. For the Lions, Gracie Tyrell also finished the match with three total shots and two on goal.
Mac Titus played the full 90 minutes in goal for UT Martin and made six saves, while her counterpart, Madison Vukas, also went the full 90 and had four saves.
With two ties to start the season, the Skyhawks will look for their first win Sunday when they host former OVC rival Austin Peay at 7 p.m. at Skyhawk Soccer Field.
