WACO, Texas – The University of Tennessee at Martin shattered a school record with four Ariat National Collegiate Equestrian All-Americans as the organization released its list of the best riders for the 2024-25 campaign today. Gabby Adams (flat), Elise Mason (reining) and Logan Putvinski (reining) each earned first team status while Mia McAfoos was named to the second team in horsemanship.
The four NCEA All-Americans pass the 2018 Skyhawk squad (three) for the most in school history. UT Martin's trio of first team All-Americans are also a program record as the Skyhawks accounted for four NCEA All-American first teamers in their school history before today.
Logan Putvinski becomes the fifth UT Martin rider to garner All-American status in two separate seasons as she adds on to her 2023 reining second team honor. Adams, Mason and McAfoos become only the 17th, 18th and 19th Skyhawks to ever collect NCEA All-American honors.
Overall, UT Martin was responsible for two of the five NCEA first-team All-Americans in reining, one of the six NCEA first-team All-Americans in flat and one of the four NCEA second-team All-Americans in horsemanship (following five honorees on the first team). The three Skyhawk first-team All-Americans only trailed SMU and Auburn (each with four) for the most in the nation.
A sophomore out of Burton, Ohio, Adams is the first Skyhawk rider to ever claim NCEA All-American first team accolades in flat. Named the Eastern College Athletic Conference Flat Rider of the Year last month, she earned a team-best 10 victories as part of a 10-2-1 record this season. Her longest winning streak of the season was six meets from Oct. 5 through Nov. 16, 321stretch. She managed a team-high four of the team's seven MOP's in flat in 2024-25, dialing up top honors against South Dakota State (Oct. 5 and Nov. 15), No. 1 Auburn (Oct. 26) and Delaware State (Feb. 21). She also accounted for a team-high 83.1 regular season scoring average, boosted by a career-best 93-point performance against No. 5 Oklahoma State on Oct. 19. She was a two-time ECAC Flat Rider of the Week (Oct. 8 and Oct. 29) while also winning ECAC Flat Rider of the Month honors for October.
Mason is the fifth UT Martin representative to bring home an NCEA first-team All-American award in reining. The sophomore who hails from Olympia, Wash. made her season debut during the second meet and never looked back, unreeling seven consecutive victories. That surge helped her register the ECAC Reining Rider of the Year award with a 10-3 record. Her three MOP's came against South Dakota State (Oct. 5), No. 1 Auburn (Oct. 26) and No. 4 SMU (Feb. 22), establishing career-high tallies of 73 points in each of the latter two meets. Checking in with a team-high 70.2 scoring average in the regular season, she won NCEA Reining Rider of the Month accolades in October – also claiming that award at the ECAC level – and was a two-time ECAC Rider of the Week in reining (Oct. 29, Feb. 25).
A senior from Knoxville, Tenn., Putvinski joins Kara Bergenty (2012-13), Abbie Hopkins (2018, 2020), Noel Meadows (2018-19, 2021) and Julia Gilman (2022-23) as the only riders in Skyhawk history to be voted a NCEA All-American in multiple years. Putvinski notched a team-best 12 reining victories against just two losses and enters the upcoming NCEA Championship on a five-meet winning streak. She nabbed MOP accolades against Fresno State on Oct. 5 and piled up season-high scores of 72 points in consecutive meets against Delaware State (Feb. 21) and No. 4 SMU (Feb. 22). Carrying a regular season scoring average of 70.1 points per ride, she was spotlighted as ECAC Reining Rider of the Week twice (Oct. 8, March 11) and was additionally voted ECAC Standout Student-Athlete of the Month in February.
McAfoos becomes the first UT Martin rider to ever secure a NCEA All-American nod in horsemanship. The 2024-25 ECAC Horsemanship Rider of the Year went 10-4 on the season while generating four of the team's nine MOP medals in that event. She earned MOP status in three meets in a row (South Dakota State on Nov. 15, Delaware State on Nov. 16 and Minnesota-Crookston on Feb. 7) while adding another medal at No. 7 South Carolina on March 8 – tallying a career-best 76.5 points in the Nov. 16 and March 8 outings. The senior out of Alton, Ill. pieced together three separate winning streaks of at least three meets – including four straight victories from Nov. 15 through Feb. 8. She received ECAC Horsemanship Rider of the Week awards on Nov. 19 and Feb. 11 while dialing up a 72.8 regular season scoring average.
All-Americans must have a 67 percent or higher winning percentage (excluding ties), must have competed in a minimum of 67 percent of their team's NCEA qualifying regular season meets as defined in the rule book and have at least an adjusted NRS score of 85 for flat, 90 for fences, 80 for horsemanship and 75 for reining.
These four helped the Skyhawks win their first ECAC championship in a dozen years and an at-large berth into the NCEA Championship held in Ocala, Fla. UT Martin will take on No. 1 seed SMU in the tournament's opening round on Thursday, April 17 at 7:30 a.m. CT.
