MARTIN, Tenn. – As the 2024-25 athletic year rolls to a close, the University of Tennessee at Martin department of athletics held its annual UTMmys presented by Leaders Credit Union on Monday evening.
Each Skyhawk head coach submitted a Team Most Valuable Player and the major awards – Bob Carroll Male Athlete of the Year and Bettye Giles Female Athlete of the Year – were selected from that list. UT Martin's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee also chose five separate award winners while the athletic department recognized three additional honorees (Col. William R. Kaler Academic Achievement Award, Phil Dane Community Service Award, Jerry Carpenter Spirit of the Skyhawk Award).
Tevin Shipp from the Skyhawk football team was elected as Bob Carroll Male Athlete of the Year. The all-conference first team honoree and NFL rookie minicamp invitee capped off his remarkable career with his fourth straight conference championship last fall. The Smyrna, Tenn. native played in 55 games during his Skyhawk career as a linebacker while compiling 197 total tackles, 18.5 tackles for loss, four interceptions and two forced fumbles.
There was a tie in the Bettye Giles Female Athlete of the Year voting as Logan Putvinski (equestrian) and Izzy Patterson (soccer) each brought home the award. A Knoxville, Tenn. native, Putvinski secured her second All-American honor while leading her team to an ECAC championship and NCEA berth. The senior garnered first-team All-American honors and all-conference accolades on the way to finishing the season with a 12-3 head-to-head record with one M.O.P. in reining. Hailing from St. Louis, Mo., Patterson was a four-time all-conference selection including three All-OVC first team honors. The midfielder played in 72 games for the Skyhawks while scoring 10 goals and dishing eight assists throughout her decorated career.
The SAAC awards included presentations for Clutch Performance (Kate Davis semifinal clinching ride in the ECAC Championships), Newcomer of the Year (cross country's Keagan Enicks), Signature Win (football's playoff road victory at New Hampshire), Coach of the Year (equestrian's Kim Leiter-Janes) and Team of the Year (equestrian and football).
The Col. William R. Kaler Academic Achievement Award went to cross country/track and field standout Brady Millikin and softball star Alli Robinson while the Phil Dane Community Service Award was received by Rileigh Weiss from the equestrian squad. Jackson Twerdahl from the golf team earned the Jerry Carpenter Spirit of the Skyhawk Award.
Team MVPs Awards were given to Jalen Fithian (baseball), Olivia O'Keefe (beach volleyball), Logan Putvinski (equestrian), Tevin Shipp (football), Jackson Twerdahl (golf), Afan Trnka (men's basketball), Sam Shuman (men's cross country), Caden Ussery (men's rodeo), Angus Monro (men's track and field), Joey Kovach (rifle), Izzy Patterson (soccer), Alli Robinson (softball), Emily Hartley (STUNT), Kylie Surratt (volleyball), Anaya Brown (women's basketball), Maggie Roy (women's cross country/track and field) and Anna Wilder (women's rodeo).
