MARTIN, Tenn. – The 2024-25 regular season finale is up next for the University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball team as the Skyhawks host Morehead State with Ohio Valley Conference Championship seeding implications on the line. Tipoff tomorrow is set for 3:30 p.m. (following the conclusion of the women's game as the backend of a doubleheader) at the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center.
UT Martin (13-17) enters the contest in a three-way tie with Lindenwood and Morehead State for sixth place in the league standings at 9-10. The Skyhawks can finish anywhere from the No. 6 seed to the No. 8 seed in next week's tournament, which begins on Wednesday, March 5 at the Ford Center in Evansville, Ind.
Before the game, UT Martin will hold a Senior Day ceremony to recognize the career accomplishments of Vladimer Salaridze and David Kamwanga. Salaridze transferred to the Skyhawks from UC Riverside and is the OVC leader in steals (2.0 per game) while ranking second in both rebounding (8.0 per outing) and double-doubles (eight). Kamwanga was the lone returner from last season's OVC regular season championship squad but has not played in 2024-25 because of an injury. He has played in 67 career games in a UT Martin uniform and made four starts last season, shooting a career-best 51 percent from the floor.
The Skyhawks are coming off a wire-to-wire 79-63 victory over Southern Indiana on Thursday. Tarence Guinyard (17 points), Andrija Bukumirović (15), Matija Žužić (13) and Afan Trnka (10) each scored in double figures for UT Martin.
Way back on Dec. 19 in the OVC opener, the Skyhawks narrowly fell by a 70-69 margin in overtime at Morehead State. Guinyard's 17 points guided UT Martin, who held a five-point advantage with 1:18 to go in overtime before Jerone Morton (game-highs of 18 points and seven assists) converted the go-ahead, game-winning layup with 15 seconds remaining to cap off a 6-0 Eagle run.
Morehead State (14-16, 9-10 OVC) has lost its last eight decisions, including a 64-55 setback at Tennessee State on Thursday as former Skyhawk Kenny White, Jr. - the Eagles' leading scorer and rebounder - missed his first game of the season.
