MARTIN, Tenn. – The last homestand of the 2024-25 season for the University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball team starts with a tilt against Southern Indiana tomorrow. Tipoff from the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center is set for 7:30 p.m. (following the completion of the women's game) on ESPN+.
The Skyhawks have already clinched a spot in next week's Ohio Valley Conference tournament and can move as high as a tie for fourth in the standings.
UT Martin (12-17, 8-10 OVC) will look for a season sweep over the Screaming Eagles as the Skyhawks managed a historic victory in the first meeting between these two sides. Back on Dec. 21, UT Martin raced out to a 15-0 lead and led by as many as 47 points before claiming a 77-46 triumph. The 31-point decision was the program's largest margin of victory in an OVC contest while the Skyhawks splashed 18 three-pointers - the most in school history against a NCAA Division I opponent.
Tarence Guinyard poured in 26 of his game-high 28 points in the opening half in the Dec. 21 matchup in Evansville, draining seven of his 10 three-point tries while also hauling in a game-high nine rebounds. Josué Grullon also added 20 points (6-for-9 effort from three-point land) in just 19 minutes for UT Martin.
Guinyard showed out last week for the Skyhawks, averaging team-highs of 23.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.0 steals per game while shooting 51.7 percent (15-of-29) and 84.6 percent (11-for-13) from the charity stripe.
Southern Indiana (10-18, 5-13 OVC) snapped a seven-game skid on Saturday, knocking off SIUE by a convincing 82-68 margin. Playing without leading scorer Damoni Harrison for the first time all season, the Screaming Eagles led for all but 17 seconds of clock time as Jayland Randall (20 points), Jack Mielke (12 points, career-best 13 rebounds), Jack Campion (12 points, game-high eight assists), Ryan Hall (11 points) and Braxton Jones (10 points) all stood out. Southern Indiana touts three of the OVC's top-10 scorers in Harrison (15.1 points per game, seventh), Randall (14.9 points per game, eighth) and Stephen Olowoniyi (13.9 points per game, 10th).
