MARTIN, Tenn. – Playing its fourth game in an eight-day span, the University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball team makes the trek across the state tomorrow to clash against Tennessee Tech in the Skyhawks' final road game of the 2024-25 regular season. Tipoff time from the Hooper Eblen Center in Cookeville is set for 7:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
UT Martin (12-16, 8-9 Ohio Valley Conference) is out for revenge against a Golden Eagle squad that claimed an 89-85 overtime win at the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center back on Jan. 25. In that game, the Skyhawks scored six of the first eight points in overtime before Tennessee Tech answered with a 10-0 run. Vladimer Salaridze went off for a career-best 29 points to go along with a game-high nine rebounds while Tarence Guinyard (17), Andrija Bukumirović (14) and Matija Žužić (12) also scored in double figures for UT Martin.
Salaridze is currently part of an exclusive list as the OVC steals leader is the only NCAA Division I men's basketball player to tally at least 300 points, 200 rebounds, 70 assists, 50 steals and 25 three-point field goals made in 2024-25.
These two teams like to let it fly as the Golden Eagles lead the OVC in overall three-point field goals made (9.5 per contest) while the Skyhawks top the OVC in the same category (9.3 per outing) in league competition.
UT Martin saw its three-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday, falling 86-75 to Tennessee State at the Elam Center. The backcourt trio of Guinyard (game-high 20 points), Josué Grullon (12) and Carlos Cortijo (10) each scored in double digits for the Skyhawks, who lost for the first time this season while shooting over 50 percent (was previously 4-0).
Tennessee Tech (13-14, 8-8 OVC) fell on the road at league heavyweights Little Rock (79-75 on Thursday) and Southeast Missouri (83-69 on Saturday) last week. Last month against UT Martin, JaJuan Nicholls (23 points), Jaylon Johnson (21) and Ray Glasgow (21) each exploded for huge offensive contributions.
