- Redshirt sophomore Zy Thompson of the University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team led the Skyhawks in all five major statistical categories in a 78-66 loss at Arkansas State Saturday with 26 point, 15 rebounds, three assists, three steals and three blocks. The Skyhawks kept it close until the third quarter, where they were outscored by Arkansas State, 28-10. That momentum carried over to the beginning of the fourth as the Red Wolves held a 29-point advantage with nine minutes left in the game. However, in the rest of the fourth, UT Martin battled back and outscored Arkansas State, 27-14, in the period. The rally proved not to be enough as the Skyhawks eventually fell by 12.
- Kenley McCarn currently leads the Skyhawks with 13.8 points per game, while Zy Thompson and Grace Billington follow at 13.6 and 8.6, respectively. On the boards, Thompson leads UT Martin with 6.9 rebounds per game, while McCarn leads in assists at 3.4 and Sidni Middleton in steals at 2.3. The redshirt sophomore set career-highs in both games last week while averaging a double-double and shooting an impressive 73.1-percent from the floor, including going 10-for-11 at Arkansas State. She finished the week averaging 23.5 points, 14.0 rebounds, 3.0 steals, 2.5 blocks and 1.5 assists. Against Lipscomb, Thompson set new career marks of 21 points and 13 rebounds, then eclipsed both two days later at Arkansas State with 26 points and 15 rebounds. Against the Red Wolves, she led the Skyhawks in all five major statistical categories with three assists, three blocks and three steals.
- The Skyhawks currently have the 56th-best field goal percentage defense in the nation at 36.2, while their 3-point percentage defense ranks 60th at 26.4. UT Martin is also 77th in the country in turnovers forced per game at 20.3. Individually, Zy Thompson ranks 23rd among all Division I players in field goal percentage at 59.7.
