Redshirt sophomore Zy Thompson of the University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team led the Skyhawks in all five major statistical categories in a 78-66 loss at Arkansas State Saturday with 26 point, 15 rebounds, three assists, three steals and three blocks. The Skyhawks kept it close until the third quarter, where they were outscored by Arkansas State, 28-10. That momentum carried over to the beginning of the fourth as the Red Wolves held a 29-point advantage with nine minutes left in the game. However, in the rest of the fourth, UT Martin battled back and outscored Arkansas State, 27-14, in the period. The rally proved not to be enough as the Skyhawks eventually fell by 12.
Kenley McCarn currently leads the Skyhawks with 13.8 points per game, while Zy Thompson and Grace Billington follow at 13.6 and 8.6, respectively. On the boards, Thompson leads UT Martin with 6.9 rebounds per game, while McCarn leads in assists at 3.4 and Sidni Middleton in steals at 2.3. As a team, the Skyhawks are averaging 63.2 points and 35.1 rebounds per game, while their opponents average 62.5 and 41.6. They are currently shooting 40.4-percent from the field, 28.3-percent from 3-point range and 72.9-percent at the free throw line.
Champion Christian is currently 6-1 on the season and is ranked second in the nation in NCCAA Division II. The Tigers are coming off a convincing 76-56 win over NCAA Division III Hendrix last Thursday. Olivia Sepulvado and Jordan Hammons led the Tigers in scoring in the game with 18 points, while Sepulvado also notched a double-double, pulling down 11 rebounds.
Champion Christian currently averages 88.5 points per game, while allowing 53.3. The Tigers are shooting 43.4-percent from the floor, 29.5-percent from 3-point range and 71.14-percent from the free throw line. On the boards, Champion Christian averages 36.3 rebounds per game, while giving up 38.0.
Hammons leads the Tigers in scoring on the season with 16.1 points per game with Natalia Silva following at 13.2. Kaylan Lockett is Champion Christian's leading rebounder this season with 8.3 boards per game, while Hammons pulls down 5.2 per game.
The Skyhawks have made a 3-point field goal in 520 consecutive games, a streak which dates back to Feb. 3, 2009 against Austin Peay and ranks seventh nationally.
Kenley McCarn has scored 10 or more points in each of the Skyhawks' eight games this season. She is averaging 13.8 points on the season and has scored 10 or more points in 17 of her last 19 games.

Zy Thompson was named as the OVC Newcomer of the Week for the second time this season Tuesday. The redshirt sophomore set career-highs in both games last week while averaging a double-double and shooting an impressive 73.1-percent from the floor, including going 10-for-11 at Arkansas State. She finished the week averaging 23.5 points, 14.0 rebounds, 3.0 steals, 2.5 blocks and 1.5 assists. Against Lipscomb, Thompson set new career marks of 21 points and 13 rebounds, then eclipsed both two days later at Arkansas State with 26 points and 15 rebounds. Against the Red Wolves, she led the Skyhawks in all five major statistical categories with three assists, three blocks and three steals.
The Skyhawks currently have the 56th-best field goal percentage defense in the nation at 36.2, while their 3-point percentage defense ranks 60th at 26.4. UT Martin is also 77th in the country in turnovers forced per game at 20.3. Individually, Zy Thompson ranks 23rd among all Division I players in field goal percentage at 59.7.

Zy Thompson has won all eight jump balls to start the game this season for the Skyhawks, while Norah Clark won the jump ball to start overtime at UTEP.
