
Skyhawks Edged In Overtime at UTEP

EL PASO, Texas – The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team came up just short in overtime Saturday as it fell to UTEP, 64-60, at the Don Haskins Center in El Paso.
The Skyhawks started the game on a 7-0 run and would go on to lead for over 32 minutes of the contest. UT Martin led by two at halftime and went into the fourth quarter tied with the Miners at 38.
In the fourth, the Skyhawks led UTEP by five with 1:40 left in regulation. With 14 seconds left, UT Martin turned the ball over on an in-bounds play, allowing UTEP to take the ball down the court and hit a 3-pointer from Ivane Tensaie to tie the game at 52 with four seconds left in the quarter. However, the Skyhawks did not get the chance to get a shot off with the time remaining, sending the game into overtime.
In overtime, the lead went back and forth until Kenley McCarn gave the Skyhawks a one-point lead with 21 seconds remaining by hitting a pair of free throws. In the next possession, the Miners missed two layups but got both offensive rebounds, allowing Tensaie to hit another 3-pointer, this time with three seconds to play, giving her team a 62-60 lead. The Skyhawks then turned the ball over on the next possession, forcing them to foul and allowing UTEP to hit two free throws to seal the game at 64-60.
McCarn and Zy Thompson led the Skyhawks in the game with 15 points each. McCarn added five rebounds and five assists to her stat line, while Thompson pulled down six rebounds. Sidni Middleton scored a career-best 10 points on the night, to go along with five rebounds, five steals and two assists. On the glass, Brittani Wells led the way with seven rebounds in addition to two points and a game-high six assists, while Norah Clark added nine points.
The Skyhawks return to action next Sunday, Nov. 30, at home at the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center against Oakwood at 2 p.m.
