Skyhawks Finish Fourth At Gamecock Open

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – The University of Tennessee at Martin rifle team shot a 4625 Saturday to finish fourth out of five teams in Jacksonville State's Gamecock Open at the Gamecock Rifle Range in Jacksonville.
In smallbore, the Skyhawks fired a 2286, led by a 577 from Sophia Ashford. Rachel Haines followed with a career-best 571, while Aubrey Chenoweth and Joey Kovach each shot a 570.
In air rifle, UT Martin turned in a 2339 as a team and was paced by a 587 from Ashford, who also led the team in aggregate scoring at 1164. Liam Tegeler was next in line behind Ashford with a 586, while Chenoweth was just one off Tegeler at 585.
The home Gamecocks won the event with a 4680, followed by a 4661 from North Georgia and a 4639 from UAB. Wofford rounded out the team scoring in fifth on the day with a 4529.
The Skyhawks will now take an extended break and return to action Jan. 24 when they travel to Fairbanks, Alaska, to take on the host Nanooks and TCU.
