UT Martin Seeks Fifth Straight League Championship In Season Finale at Tennessee Tech
11/18/2025 5:39:00 PM | Football
After winning four consecutive conference championships since 2021, the University of Tennessee at Martin football program heads into the final week of the regular season looking for a fifth straight title when traveling to No. 6/8 ranked Tennessee Tech in a winner-takes-all showdown on Saturday, Nov. 22. Kickoff from Tucker Stadium is scheduled for noon and will be broadcast exclusively on ESPN+.
The OVC-Big South Championship will be on the line in Cookeville as UT Martin travels to Tennessee Tech. A victory by the Skyhawks would earn UT Martin a share of its fifth-straight league crown and give them the automatic qualifier to the FCS Playoffs – their third playoff appearance in the last five years. Conversely, a win by the Golden Eagles would give them the outright Association championship and AQ to the FCS Playoffs for the first time since 2011.
UT Martin has rebounded nicely from its early season struggles by winning five consecutive games to skyrocket up the Association standings. The Skyhawks currently rank in the top-10 nationally in 13 statistical categories – including completion percentage (70.8%) and red zone offense (93.8%) – while boasting a 27-5 record against conference opponents over the past five seasons.
In addition to the conference championship, the winner of Saturday's contest will also go home with the Sgt. York Trophy. The contest marks the third and final game of the annual Sgt. York Trophy series with UT Martin and Tennessee Tech both defeating Tennessee State earlier this season. The Skyhawks have won the trophy 11 times overall and boast a 36-14 all-time record in the series.
Tennessee Tech (10-1, 7-0 OVC-Big South) enters the matchup ranked No. 6 in the Stats Perform Top 25 and No. 8 in the AFCA Coaches' Poll after rattling off 10 consecutive wins to start the season before falling to SEC foe Kentucky (42-10) last week. Despite the loss, the Golden Eagles have seen a resurgence under second-year head coach Bobby Wilder after winning 14 consecutive games against FCS foes dating back to last season. TTU will prove to be a formidable foe, ranking amongst FCS leaders in scoring offense (42.0 ppg, second), rushing defense (74.2 yards, fourth), total defense (296.3 yards, eight) and rushing offense (212.5 yards, ninth).
Saturday's contest marks the 47th meeting between the two programs with Tennessee Tech holding a slim advantage in the all-time series with a 23-21-2 record. While the Golden Eagles won a defensive showdown against the Skyhawks last season (10-9), UT Martin has held a firm grasp on the series in recent history by winning 11 of the last 12 meetings dating back to 2013.
The game will be streamed exclusively on ESPN+ while locally fans can tune into the Skyhawk Sports Network to hear Davis Gregory (play-by-play) and Chuck Hammer (analyst) call the action. Games are broadcast on WCMT "Talk and News You Can Use!" with simulcasts on 1410 AM, 100.5 FM, 92.7 FM, 96.1 FM, 99.7 FM and 103.3 FM.
