Skyhawks Continue Postseason Push With Western Illinois Sunday

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin soccer team hosts Western Illinois at Skyhawk Soccer Field Sunday at 2 p.m., as it looks to build momentum for the postseason after a win at Morehead State Thursday.
The Skyhawks shutout the Eagles, 2-0, Thursday in Morehead on goals by Abbie McHenry and Peyton Cook. The scoring began for UT Martin in the 21st minute when Addy McCleary found McHenry in front of the goal. McHenry took the pass and sent it into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead and her first goal of the season.
The score remained 1-0 until late in the game when Cook picked off a Morehead State pass in the 82nd minute and scored on a breakaway to make it 2-0 and seal the win for the Skyhawks. Cook leads the team with four goals on the season, while McCleary leads in assists with three.
Mac Titus picked up her sixth clean sheet of the year in the match on the back of a brilliant performance in which she saved all eight shots she faced.
Thursday will be the 3rd all-time meeting between Western Illinois and the Skyhawks, with the UT Martin leading the series, 1-0-1.
The win put the Skyhawks in a tie for sixth place in the OVC standings with eight points and five points clear of the cutoff line for the eight-team postseason tournament later this month.
After winning their season opener, Western Illinois is now 1-16 on the season after falling to Little Rock, 3-0, Thursday. Abigail Schilling leads the Leathernecks with three goals on the season, while Claire Brown and Kayla Turner have two each.
In goal, Ariel Bernard is currently 1-13 for Western Illinois this season, with one shutout. She currently has a goals against average of 4.26, a save percentage of 62.1-percent and has made 90 saves.
