ACWORTH, Ga. – Drew Williams continued his impressive start to the season at The Scrappy At Cobblestone today as the University of Tennessee at Martin sophomore notched his third top-10 finish in four golf tournaments.
Williams ended with a 54-hole tally of 221 (+8), which ranked eighth in the field of 63 golfers. The eighth-place effort is tied for the best finish of his blossoming collegiate career, along with eighth-place performances at last week's Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate and the Loyola Intercollegiate (Feb. 16-18, 2025).
Playing approximately 110 miles away from his hometown of Greensboro, Ga., Williams ranked second in the tournament in par-3 scoring (3.00, E), sixth in par-4 scoring (4.11, +3) and eighth in pars (34).
Joining Williams in the top-10 was fellow Georgia native Grant Phillips, who placed 10th in the field with a 222 (+9). Hailing from 15 miles away in Marietta, Phillips finished 10th in the field in par-5 scoring (4.92, -1).
The Skyhawks saved their lowest score of the tournament for last as their 297 (+13) today was the third-best Round 3 score in the field. Overall, UT Martin placed eighth with an aggregate tally of 896 (+44) – just three strokes out of a top-five team finish.
John-Gregory Wilson produced his best score of the tournament today with a team-best 73 that included three birdies. Luke Caldwell followed with a team-high five birdies on the way to a 74 while Phillips (two birdies) and Luke Beadles (one eagle, one birdie) each shot a 75 to round out the team scoring. Williams jotted down a pair of birdies on his scorecard today, wrapping up his tournament with a 76.
Competing as an individual, Bryce Harmon (80 with two birdies in Round 3) finished just outside the top-25 with a 225 (+12). The freshman tapped in 11 combined birdies in the tournament, which ranked fourth in the field. Caldwell also finished with an identical 225 (+12) over the course of 54 holes.
Wilson tied Phillips for 10th place in the field in par-5 scoring (4.92, -1), finishing with a 229 (+16). Beadles' three-round total was a 239 (+26).
"Obviously it wasn't the best week for us," Skyhawk head coach Austin Swafford said. "I have to do a better job preparing us to play a demanding test of golf – this was our toughest test as far as courses go this fall and I have to make sure we are better prepared. I'm proud of Drew and Grant for their efforts this week and finishing inside the top 10. They battled out there and did well."
UT Martin will take a three-week break from official action before concluding its fall slate at the Kapolei Invitational on Nov. 5-6 in Hawaii.
