
Third Quarter Rally Not Enough For Skyhawks at TSU

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team had a rollercoaster of a game against Tennessee State, but ultimately fell to the Tigers, 77-61, Tuesday night at the Gentry Center in Nashville.
The Skyhawks trailed by just three points at the end of the first quarter, 16-13, but gave up a single-quarter season-high 29 points in the second and trailed by 15 at the break. 45-50. In the third, the Skyhawks clawed their way back into the game by outscoring the Tigers, 20-5, in the frame, leaving the game tied at 50 after three complete. However, in the fourth, UT Martin gave up 26 points and ultimately fell by 16.
While the Skyhawks committed less turnovers than the Tigers, 28-19, Tennessee State crashed the boards and outrebounded UT Martin, 48-35. The Tigers also beat the Skyhawks in the paint, 36-28, and on fast-break points, 23-6. Tennessee State also got more out of its bench on the night, with the Tiger reserves outscoring their Skyhawk counterparts, 37-20.
Anaya Brown led UT Martin the game with 15, while Shae Littleford and Kaitlyn McCarn followed at 13 and 10, respectively. Brown also had a team-high six boards in the game, while Kenley McCarn had five to go along with team-highs of three steals and two blocks.
The Skyhawks will get an extended break this week returning to action Saturday at home against Tennessee Tech. Tip-off from the Tom & Kathleen Elam Center in Martin at 1 p.m.
