UT Martin erased a six-point halftime deficit and scored 43 points in the second half of Saturday's 72-65 win over SIUE at the Kathleen & Tom Elam Center in Martin, Tennessee.
The Skyhawks committed a season-low eight turnovers in the game, while forcing 22 SIUE turnovers. UT Martin also made 30 trips to the free throw line Saturday, converting on 22 of the 30 attempts. Another factor in the win was the 22 points off the bench for the Skyhawks, eclipsing their season average of 17.5
UT Martin placed four players in double-figures against the Cougars including a team-high 16 from Anaya Brown. Norah Clark followed with 14, while Shae Littleford and Kaitlyn Clark each added 11.
After dropping both of its OVC tilts last weekend, Tennessee State enters Tuesday at 4-14 overall and 0-8 in league play. The Tigers currently average 63.0 points per game on 36.7-percent shooting, while allowing opponents to shoot 42.7-percent from the floor and score 74.7 points per game. Somah Kamara currently leads the Tigers in scoring with 14.3 points per game, followed by Aaniya Webb at 14.2. On the boards, Lyric Cole leads the way at 8.0 rebounds per game, while as team TSU is currently being outrebounded, 42.3 to 38.0.
UT Martin currently leads the all-time series with Tennessee State, 40-31, having won seven of the last 10 meetings. In Nashville, however, the Tiger hold the advantage over the Skyhawks, winning 20 of the 35 meetings in Music City.
The Skyhawks continued their recent surge of making frequent visits to the free throw line against SIUE, when they made 30 trips and converted on 22 of them. UT Martin has now shot at least 25 free throws in four of its last five games. On the season, the Skyhawks are shooting 72.5-percent from the charity stripe with an average of 13.8 makes and 19.5 attempts per game.
Norah Clark continued to impress in OVC play Saturday, scoring 14 points. She has nearly doubled her output since league play began, averaging 5.4 point per game overall, but 9.8 in the Skyhawk's eight OVC contests.
The Skyhawks reached a historic milestone Saturday when the tallied their 500th consecutive game with a least one made 3-pointers, after making six against SIUE. The current streak dates back to Feb. 3, 2009, against Austin Peay and currently, ranks 7th nationally.
Anaya Brown inched closer to becoming the 18th 1,000-point scorer in program history Saturday, when she scored 16 against SIUE. Brown now has 973 career points needing just 27 to join Skyhawk women's basketball's most exclusive club.
