Anaya Brown had season-highs of 26 points and 12 rebounds for the 12th double-double of her career, as UT Martin picked up a key Ohio Valley Conference road win over Western Illinois Thursday night, 73-60, at Western Hall in Macomb.
The Skyhawks, who led by as many as 19 in the game, saw four players reach double figures in the game, accounting for 60 of the team's 73 points. Daejah Richmond came off the bench to follow Brown with 13 points, while Norah Clark added a season-high 11 and Shae Littleford chipped in with 10.
Lindenwood moved to 4-1 in OVC play and 8-6 overall Thursday with a 68-54 win over Tennessee State at home. Ellie Bruggeman led the Lions with 14 points, while Brooke Coffey and Justis Odom each had 10. Bruggeman leads Lindenwood in scoring on the season at 11.6 point per game, while Coffey leads on the glass at 6.4 rebounds per game. The Lions currently average 65.6 points on 41.4-percent shooting, while their opponents shoot 41.7-percent from the floor and average 64.9 points per game.
UT Martin is 2-1 all-time in the series against OVC newcomer Lindenwood. The Skyhawks lost the first meeting in Saint Charles in 2023 and the two teams split the series last season, with each team winning on the other's home court.
The Skyhawks outrebounded Western Illinois Thursday, 41-35. Anaya Brown led the charge with 12, while Kenley McCarn tied her career-high with eight. UT Martin is now 4-1 on the season when they tally more boards than their opponents.
UT Martin got off to a rough start in the turnover column Thursday, committing six in the first quarter. However, the Skyhawks cleaned up their act and averaged just three over each of the final three quarters. Western Illinois scored 17 points off 15 turnovers in the game, allowing the Skyhawks to improve to 4-1 in their last five games in which they allow less than 20 points off turnovers.
The Skyhawks went 22-for-25 at the free throw line Thursday night, powered by a 10-for-12 performance by Anaya Brown. The 88.0 free throw percentage in the game is a season-best for UT Martin in games in which they attempt five or more free throws.
