
Six Skyhawks Notch Top-25 Finishes As UT Martin Golf Puts Finishing Touches On Another Successful Grover Page Classic

JACKSON, Tenn. – Jonathan Xoinis carded a hole-in-one today as the University of Tennessee at Martin placed half of its 12 participants in the top-25 of the player leaderboard at the 21st annual Grover Page Classic held at Jackson Country Club.
Xoinis' ace came on the par-3, 122-yard Hole No. 11 and was the Skyhawks' first hole-in-one since Bryson Morrell accomplished that feat in Round 2 of the Loyola Intercollegiate on Feb. 21, 2022 in Goodyear, Ariz.
In addition to the eagle ace, Xoinis recorded five birdies – including four in a row two holes after the hole-in-one – on the way to a 68 to pace the scoring lineup in Round 2. Garrett Chumley rolled in five birdies on the way to a 71 (-1) while Jackson Twerdahl (five birdies, 74) and Cole Isbell (four birdies, 76) rounded out the team scoring.
UT Martin's seven designated individuals additionally put on a show today, led by Grant Phillips. The sophomore out of Marietta, Ga. shot a 67 – tied for the second-best score in the field behind tournament medalist Brady Kaufmann of SIUE – with a team-best six birdies. As a direct result, he jumped up 53 spots up the leaderboard – finishing 17th in the field of 99 golfers with a 142 (-2) thanks in large part to a team-best 10 birdies over the 36-hole event.
Ethan Ray compiled five birdies as part of a 69 on his scorecard today while John-Gregory Wilson and Dax Isbell each posted three birdies and 71's. Drew Williams (three birdies) and Jaden Morrell (two birdies) both managed 74's while Luke Beadles managed a pair of birdies on the way to a 76.
The Skyhawks earned six top-25 finishes in the player standings, led by 11th-place efforts out of Ray and Wilson (140, -4). Xoinis and Dax Isbell tied Phillips in 17th place with 142's while Chumley's 143 was good enough for 24th on the leaderboard.
Cole Isbell finished with an even-par 144 with Twerdahl (145), Williams (145) and Morrell (145) following closely behind. Beadles completed the tournament with a 148 (+4) while Luke Caldwell finished with a 153 (+9) after a 79 with two birdies in Round 2.
As a team, UT Martin shot a 289 (+1) today, bringing its 36-hole tally to 574 (-2). That number ranked seventh in the 15-team field. SIUE shot 12-under par today to leap atop the leaderboard with a 559 (-17).
"Overall, it was a good week," Skyhawk head coach Austin Swafford said. "We have a bigger team this year and everybody was playing – I wanted to learn about my team during this tournament and I did just that. I saw a lot of positive takeaways from the starting lineup and the individuals. We have a lot of guys playing well – the bottom line is that we have a competitive team and we're going to have a few different lineups until April rolls around and that's ok because we knew that coming in. We'd like to thank Shelby Tucci, Will Houchin and the entire staff at Jackson Country Club for their incredible hospitality all week."
UT Martin will step away from official competition next week before resuming its fall slate on Sept. 30-Oct. 1 at the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate in Jonesboro, Ark.
