SKYHAWK TRACK AND FIELD LOOKS TO FINISH OFF SEASON STRONG AT OVC OUTDOOR TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS

MARTIN, Tenn.- Just one more event remains for the University of Tennessee at Martin track and field teams as the season finale will take place this week at the Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Charleston, Ill. The event spans over three days, starting on Thursday, May 9 at 9 a.m. and wrapping up on Saturday, May 11.
Eastern Illinois University will host the event at O'Brein Field with weather being partly cloudy and in the high-60's throughout the championships.
Last season, UT Martin finished the year with an exclamation point by recording five medalists in the three-day competition. Current Skyhawks Sam Shuman (3k steeple, second-place) and Khalid White (400 meter, third-place) earned medals with White being named the program's first OVC Outdoor Track and Field Freshman of the Year. UT Martin was able set six new school records during the meet.

- Rita Eimer (2:12.93, tied for first) and Maggie Roy (2:14.59, fifth) have been dominant in the 800m with two of the best finishes in the OVC.
- The 1500m has two Skyhawks in the OVC's top-10 with Angus Monro (3:52.07, fourth) and Hudson Hall (seventh, 3:52.88).
- Roy is fifth in the conference for the 1500m, holding a time of 4:38.16 in the Outdoor Music City Challenge.
- JaDerrika Welch-Fields' mark of 1:06.28 in the 400m hurdles at the ASU Alumni Classic is good enough for eighth in the OVC.
- Shuman's blazing time of 8:58.28 is second best in the conference for the steeplechase.
- Brady Millikin is sixth in the conference in the steeplechase holding a time of 9:27.75.
- Smith currently holds the school record in the 200m by achieving a time of 21.61 during the Rhodes College Invitational.
- The 4x100 record was set by the team of Ja'Kobe Ward, White, Smith and Stewart who landed a time of 41.49 at the ASU Alumni Classic.
- Shuman claimed the school's top spot in the steeplechase with a time of 8:58.28 while at the Outdoor Music City Challenge.
- Welch-Fields ranks tied for third in the high jump in the OVC by breaking the school record with a leap of 1.70m in the Outdoor Music City Challenge.
