The University of Tennessee at Martin softball team returns home for a three-game series against Ohio Valley Conference foe Southern Indiana this weekend, beginning with a single game on Friday, Apr. 5 before wrapping up the series with a doubleheader on Saturday, Apr. 6. All games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
The Skyhawks (20-15, 6-6 OVC) enter the series hot off a mid-week victory over Southeastern Conference foe Ole Miss on Wednesday with a 4-1 victory while winning three of their four OVC series this season. UT Martin currently sits three games out of first place in the OVC standings and in a tie for fifth place overall.
UT Martin features a roster with four batters hitting over .300 on the season while being led by Kaci Fuller with a .415 batting average. Fuller enters the weekend with 229 career base hits (179 games) and sits just eight behind the program's all-time record of 237 set by Jenny Bain (238 games) while also boasting the program's highest career batting average with a .387 mark. Nixon is coming off a strong doubleheader against Ole Miss where she tallied four hits and three RBIs in the twin bill while posting a .373 batting average with four doubles, two home runs and 11 RBIs. Dreiling boasts a .352 batting average with nine doubles, two home runs and 27 RBIs.
The Skyhawk pitching staff is led by Brooklynn Linneman with a 7-3 overall record while posting a 1.46 ERA in 57.2 innings of work. Meanwhile, Dreiling (5-4, 3.46 ERA) and Nixon (3-4, 3.39 ERA) have combined to pitch 102 innings for the Skyhawks.
Southern Indiana (14-13, 8-4 OVC) has won eight of its last 10 games and sits just one game out of second place in the league standings. The Screaming Eagles boast five players hitting over .300 on the season while the trio of Lexi Fair, Hailey Gotshall and Carolina Stapleton share the team-lead with .324 average. Meanwhile in the circle, USI is led by Josie Newman with a 12-5 record and 2.00 ERA in 119.0 innings of work.
