SKYHAWK WOMEN’S HOOPS RETURNS TO POSTSEASON FOR TENTH TIME IN 14 YEARS

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball program and head coach Kevin McMillan have built a tradition of excellence over the past 15 years. With yet another NCAA Tournament berth, the Skyhawks add another chapter to a historical stretch in UT Martin Athletics.
Since taking over the program prior to the 2009-10 season, McMillan has guided the Skyhawks to unparalleled success in UT Martin's storied history. Prior to the program's first OVC Basketball Championship title in 2011, UT Martin had only won one conference championship and garnered one postseason berth with its participation in the Women's NIT in 1998-99.
Once the first OVC Basketball Championship title came in 2011, the Skyhawks have ratted off an impressive stretch over the past 14 years – including 10 postseason berths. UT Martin won regular season titles in 2011-12, 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16, 2019-20 and 2020-21 while accomplishing the ultimate task with tournament championships in four consecutive years from 2011-14 – a feat which had never been accomplished before in OVC history.
In total, the Skyhawks have now earned five NCAA Tournament berths in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2024 while receiving invitations to five WNIT fields in 2015, 2016, 2018, 2020 (canceled) and 2021. During that span, UT Martin has three postseason victories – including becoming the first OVC program to record multiple postseason victories in one season back in 2021 with its participation in the WNIT.
In comparison to other members of the OVC, the Skyhawks stand alone over the past 14 seasons. UT Martin enters the 2024 NCAA Tournament with 10 postseason berths in 14 seasons while the closest active OVC member during that same time period is Tennessee Tech with five.
UT Martin will find out its next postseason opponent on Sunday, March 17 when the 2024 March Madness Selection Show announces the 68-team tournament field on ESPN. The Skyhawks are hosting a watch party beginning at 6:30 p.m. in Watkins Auditorium while special March Madness t-shirts are available for pre-order at the top of the page.
