
WALTHER LEADS THE WAY FOR SKYHAWK RIFLE ON FIRST DAY OF 2024 OVC CHAMPIONSHIPS

MOREHEAD, Ky. – For the 10th time in 10 matches this season, junior Alayna Walther guided the University of Tennessee at Martin in smallbore as Day 1 of the Ohio Valley Conference Championships commenced today.
Walther managed a score of 584 after tallies of 98-97 in kneeling, 98-100 in prone and 94-97 in standing.
Following Walther was Joey Kovach's 580 (99-98 kneeling, 96-99 prone, 95-93 standing) as the sophomore finished just one point shy of equaling his career-high. Nick Fares (575) was the Skyhawks' next-highest scorer as he posted 100-99 in kneeling, 99-100 in prone and 89-88 in standing. UT Martin's fourth and final scorer was Jesse Chamberlain, whose career-best 567 included scores of 91-96 in kneeling, 100-99 in prone and 90-91 in standing.
Jeffrey Bourassa (557; 95-88 kneeling, 95-98 prone, 90-91 standing) also represented the Skyhawks today.
UT Martin earned 2,306 points as a team today, which narrowly trailed event host Morehead State (2,307) for second-place honors. Murray State's 2,333 points topped the leaderboard while Racer fifth-year senior Matias Kiuru (587; 97-96 kneeling, 100-100 prone, 98-96 standing) held the highest score of any individual.
