MARTIN, Tenn. – The final road trip of the season for the University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball team starts at Ohio Valley Conference rival Lindenwood. Tipoff on Thursday, Feb. 22 is set for 7:30 p.m.
The Skyhawks (17-10, 10-4 OVC) enter the contest just a half-game out of first place in the league standings. UT Martin has defeated every OVC school at least once so far this season, joining the 2008-09 and 2022-23 squads as the only teams in program history to accomplish that feat.
A pair of Skyhawks are coming off historic weeks as Jordan Sears and Jacob Crews joined elite company. Sears became just the 19th member of the UT Martin 1,000-point club with 31 points on Saturday against Morehead State and only the fourth to accomplish that feat in two years or less. Meanwhile, Crews swept OVC Player and Newcomer of the Week honors and was just named as one of five Oscar Robertson Trophy National Players of the Week after averaging 30.5 points with 10 three-pointers in 21 attempts (47.6 percent).
Each of the three meetings between the Skyhawks and Lindenwood have been decided by single digits since the latter joined the OVC in 2022, including the 76-67 UT Martin victory earlier this season at the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center. In that game, Crews dialed up 20 points on nine shot attempts while Issa Muhammad (14 points, 17 rebounds, career-best five blocks, three assists) and Sears (16 points, six rebounds) also had big outings.
The Lions (8-19, 2-12 OVC) are coming off their fifth straight setback, a 72-57 road decision at Eastern Illinois on Saturday as Jaylon McDaniel led the way with team-highs of 10 points and six rebounds.
Against the Skyhawks on Jan. 27, Lindenwood displayed impressive scoring balance as Keenon Cole (15 points), Darius Beane (14), McDaniel (11) and Jeremiah Talton (11) each scored in double figures.
