The Skyhawks battled with Butler last week at the historic Hinkle Fieldhouse and overcame a 10-point halftime deficit to lead by as many as seven points, early in the fourth quarter. However, the Bulldogs ended the game on a 17-2 run, to cling a 70-60 win over UT Martin.
Arkansas State is currently 3-4 on the season, last playing on Dec. 7 in a win at home over Jackson State, 76-65. The Red Wolves currently average 70.3 points per game, while allowing 65.1. From the floor, A-State shoots 38.1-percent, 32.6-percent from 3-point range and 63.1-percent from the free throw line.
Despite the loss, the Skyhawks shot season-highs in all three phases of the game, shooting 49.0-percent (25-51) from the floor, 50.0-percent (6-12) from 3-point range and were perfect at the free throw line for the first time this season, going 4-for-4.
Anaya Brown led three Skyhawks in double-figures Thursday with 13 points, while Kenley McCarn and Shae Littleford followed with 12 and 11, respectively. Brown also led UT Martin on the boards in the game with six, while sisters Kaitlyn and Kenley McCarn dished out a team-high of three assists each.
Zyion Shannon leads Arkansas State in scoring on the season with 10.0 points per game, while Crislyn Rose, Anna Griffin and Kennedie Montue follow at 9.6 points each. On the boards, Griffin leads at 5.6 per game with Montue following at 4.9 and Kyanna Morgan adding 4.6 per game.
With six rebounds against Butler, Anaya Brown became the 18th player in program history to reach the 500-rebound milestone. She currently sits at 506 career rebounds, two behind Melissa Dawson with 508.
With six made 3-pointers at Butler, the Skyhawks have now made at least one 3-point field goal in 490 consecutive games, a streak which dates back to Feb. 3, 2009, against Austin Peay and currently, ranks 8th nationally.
At 13-for-13, Kenley McCarn is currently perfect at the free throw line this season. She is currently on a streak of 17 consecutive made free throws, dating back to when she made her last four free throw attempts in last season's OVC semifinal against Little Rock.
