MARTIN, Tenn. – The last away game of the University of Tennessee at Martin's road-heavy nonconference men's basketball slate takes place tomorrow at Alabama State out of the Southwestern Athletic Conference. Tipoff from the Dunn-Oliver Acadome in Montgomery, Ala. is set for 6 p.m.
The Skyhawks are 9-7 all-time against current members of the SWAC but will be matched up against the Hornets for the first time on the hardwood.
Plenty of balance was displayed amongst UT Martin's offensive explosion against Montreat on Saturday as the Skyhawks placed eight scorers in double figures for the first time in the school's NCAA Division I Era (since 1992). Tarence Guinyard (17 points) topped UT Martin in scoring for the first time this season while the frontcourt duo of Andrija Bukumirović (career-highs of 16 points, 10 rebounds) and Stefano Faloppa (career-bests of 11 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, three blocks and two steals in just 20 minutes) each generated double-doubles.
Josué Grullon (15 points, 4-for-8 from three-point range), Afan Trnka (career-highs of 14 points and eight rebounds), Vladimer Salaridze (season-high 13 points), Carlos Cortijo (career-best 13 points, game-high six assists) and Matija Žužić (11 points) also did the heavy lifting for the Skyhawks in the 112-60 triumph.
In addition to its offensive prowess, UT Martin (3-6) held the visiting Cavaliers to 14.3 percent shooting (4-of-28) from three-point range, including an 0-for-16 clip over the final 19 minutes of the contest.
Alabama State (3-6) has also endured a busy travel schedule so far in 2024-25, playing eight of its nine contests at road or neutral sites. In their last game, the Hornets led by a 33-30 margin at the halftime break at Southern Miss but fell by an 81-64 margin. CJ Hines scored 18 points while Amarr Knox and Shawn Fulcher each tacked on 11 points for Alabama State, who committed just seven turnovers and held a 26-5 advantage in bench points.
