UT Martin Volleyball Returns Home This Weekend Against OVC Leader Southeast Missouri; Senior Day Set For Saturday

MARTIN, Tenn. – After four straight matches on the road, the University of Tennessee at Martin volleyball team is back at Skyhawk Fieldhouse this weekend, colliding against Ohio Valley Conference rival Southeast Missouri. First serve on Friday, Nov. 8 is set for 6 p.m. while the two-match series wraps up with Senior Day festivities on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 2 p.m.
Six seniors – Hannah Haislip, Josie Hess, Zara McCauley, Dylan Mott, Jenna Vallée and Addy Vaughn – will be honored for their career contributions before Saturday's match. Those six enter this weekend having combined for 766 kills, 1,623 assists, 117 service aces, 2,371 digs and 206 blocks in 362 matches spread out over 18 separate seasons.
UT Martin (5-16, 3-9 OVC) is coming off a split at Tennessee State last weekend, falling 3-0 on Friday before bouncing back strong for a five-set victory on Saturday. Kayla Bryant led the Skyhawks in points (23.5) on the weekend, aided heavily by six service aces. Vaughn added 19 kills on a .400 hitting percentage with a team-best eight blocks while Kylie Surratt slammed down a team-best 20 kills. Kristin Phillips managed 18 kills on a team-high .424 hitting percentage while Mott topped the squad in both service aces (six) and digs (23).
The Skyhawks are 17-9 against the Redhawks at home since 2001 as a pair of players have experienced immense success against Southeast Missouri in their UT Martin careers. Bryant slammed down 20 kills (3.33 per set) against the Redhawks in a pair of matches last fall while Mott has registered 93 digs in nine matches during her storied career against Southeast Missouri.
Bryant leads the OVC with 0.40 service aces per set in league play while Mott's 5.10 digs-per-set average ranks second in the OVC. Katie Cruise's 6.74 assists per set rank sixth in the league while three-time OVC Freshman of the Week Surratt ranks eighth in the league in kills (3.29 per set) and points (3.60 per set) against conference opposition.
Southeast Missouri (13-11, 10-2 OVC) split its opening league weekend at Southern Indiana and then proceeded to reel off nine consecutive OVC victories until a 3-1 setback to Tennessee Tech at home last Saturday. Nina Schuberth has scooped up a league-high 5.94 digs per set against conference competition, leading to three OVC Defensive Player of the Week accolades in 2024. The Redhawks lead the league with 1.69 service aces per set in OVC play.
