MARTIN, Tenn. – An in-state battle to close out the month of November is on tap for the University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball squad as the Skyhawks collide against the No. 6 ranked Tennessee Volunteers tomorrow. Tipoff from Thompson-Boling Arena is set for 3 p.m. CT on SEC Network+.
UT Martin (2-4) is in the midst of six straight contests away from home, including a two-game stint at the Island U Invitational in Corpus Christi, Texas last week. The Skyhawks outrebounded the competition (86-81) and combined to force 28 turnovers in a pair of matchups but fell 81-77 to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and 65-53 to Le Moyne. Tarence Guinyard (14.5 points per game) and Josué Grullon (13.0 points per outing) each collected all-tournament accolades for UT Martin.
The Skyhawks have displayed a stingy defense so far under first-year head coach Jeremy Shulman as four of UT Martin's six opponents have shot 37.1 percent or lower. That includes a 28 percent clip (51-for-182) from beyond the three-point arc by Skyhawk opposition in 2024-25.
A pair of early standouts have also emerged for UT Martin as Grullon tops the Ohio Valley Conference in scoring (18.2 points per game) and three-point field goals made (3.5 per outing) while Vladimer Salaridze ranks first in the league with 9.3 rebounds per game.
Tennessee (6-0) is fresh off a Baha Mar championship as the Volunteers led by as many as 28 points before dispatching No. 13 Baylor by a 77-62 margin in the finals of the tournament held in the Bahamas. Lute Olson National Player of the Week Chaz Lanier ended the two-game tournament by averaging 25.5 points per game on a remarkable 59.1 percent (13-of-22) shooting effort from three-point land.
The high-powered Volunteers have now defeated a trio of Power 4 conference teams (Louisville, Virginia, Baylor) by an average of 19.7 points per game this season with each game occurring on the road or at neutral sites.
